Biggest Pet Peeves

Let's see if you can find a way to use this quote for a third time today.

Sidewalk, whenever possible. The cyclists on the highway are much worse, though. Especially if they're the type to not get over as much as possible to allow you to pass them. If they keep riding in the middle of the lane, slowing you down to less than 15 mph, you should be allowed give them a little bump.

As a cyclist I have plenty of issues regarding sidewalks (extra-wide sidewalks that double as multi-use paths aren't quite as bad about these):
- Drivers pull across the sidewalk when approaching an intersection, then look to see if the sidewalk has anyone on it. Not a big deal for pedestrians, but this can easily become a problem when riding a bike.
- Same thing, but for driveways, too.

Regarding being far-enough to the right so that you can pass, cyclists only have to ride as far right as is safe (e.g., can leave room to maneuver around obstacles). If I think drivers are going to try and go around me and stay in the same lane (i.e., "shoot the gap" between my and the center line, and thus pass unsafely-close) I'll ride farther to the left to remove that temptation and force a driver to pass with a safe gap. Usually if the car has to enter the left lane by any amount, they'll go far-enough into it to give the bicycle room.

I do get annoyed with cyclists that don't use appropriate paths/lanes/trails when possible due to the consternation it needlessly causes.

People who don't know the rules of the road (right of way, when to stop and not stop for schoolbuses, etc)
People who are walking on a sidewalk or in a store and just STOP. Really bad at the farmers market. Think of it as a roadway, you wouldn't do that there right. . . see previous one
People who don't mow their yard or shovel their sidewalk.

I one time SHOT a cyclist for cruising beside the line of cars stopped at a red light. Ok I didn't really shoot him, but I wanted to . . .:realmad:

I wasn't going to feed the trolls anymore, but since you bit first I guess I can say I agree with all what was said here, as do pretty much every road cyclist and commuter I know.

Also, they're called "road bikes" for a reason. Nobody makes a sidewalk bike.

And... bicycles are the reason paved roads were invented in the first place. Your welcome motorists.

I feel ya. Like colbycheese, riders like that **** me off because those of us that obey the rules of the road have to deal with the anger generated by those who don't.

Shooting is a bit extreme, but I've yelled at cyclists doing that while I was stopped at a traffic light in the lane between cars on my commuter bike. It's extremely dangerous. If someone turns right, that cyclists is toast. As evidenced here, it also gives people a bad impression of cyclists.

Last week there was a pack of 50-60 bicyclists riding 2-3 wide and stretching out for quite a ways on one of the roads north of Ankeny. Thankfully I was going the opposite direction. Long line of cars stretched out behind them and it is just hilly enough there that there was no chance of getting around. I was ****** off for the drivers behind them.

We live in Iowa. Pretty sure most Royal, Cub, Twin, and Cardinal fans in the state have no connection with those teams, either. What team a person cheers for is their own business, I don't care. The ones who **** me off are the ones who claim they're Yankee fans (for example, but it applies to quite a few others) and can't name any player on the roster outside of Jeter, A-Rod and Sabathia.
Yankee fan here. I have had more than my fair share of "Who the **** is that?" moments this season since the actual players are all on the disabled list. David Adams? Vidal Nuno? Corbin Joseph? Preston Claiborne? Is AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre playing the Yankees schedule?

Yeah I don't GAF about his safety angle, but I am one of those guys who feel cyclists have rights to the road and as such should obey the laws.

People who put their license plate stickers all over the license plate instead of just on top of the old one in the bottom left corner of the plate.

This should be automatic revocation of your license. If you can't read the damn registration how are earth can you figure out what a stop sign means?

Im at home and I am bored, so I figured I would start a thread about this, and help pass the time.

What is everybody's biggest pet peeves.

Mine,

Chomping your gum
Dragging your feet when you walk
When people say 'warsh' or 'idear'

Message board grammar police cough (cmjh) :jimlad:

You couldn't help yourself. I knew you would give in.
