Without perfection I don’t see us catching catching okie st. If Small would of made some noise we could be a little closer but that didn’t happen. I really do not want to get caught by UNI though. Would be nice to get some separation there.

Will we get team points for Small’s 9th place match if he wins?

i doubt it. Not sure about this tournament, but every time I’ve seen one of these mini brackets made just for qualification purposes, there is no team scoring implication.

ISU Wrestling twitter account said these matches would not count toward point totals, only to determine who finished one spot outside of allocations for at large purposes

You can only score to 8.

The matches for true 4th/6th/8th also do not change team scoring.
Wasn’t sure how many allocations were at 133. Sounds like 8? So it looks like small can still get an auto since he hasn’t wrestled either in the 7/8 match.

That's my understanding, but the setup and operation of this event leaves something to be desired.

Rough estimate on bonus points
Ok State - 5 falls, 5 TF, & 1 MD
Iowa State- 0,0,0 (never counted Small’s in 9th place bracket)
UNI - 5 falls, 1 MD

That's what really kills us. It seems to me like our guys are satisfied with just winning and not getting bonus points. And on a couple occasions we had majors in the bag and lost them in the last seconds because we didn't wrestle to the whistle.

Careful. This kind of talk will get you slapped around here.

Thanks for counting these up, but that really sucks.

We only have a few guys talented enough to get bonus. A dinged up Carr doesn’t help. The one wrestler whose approach I’ve questioned all year is Parker’s. Totally dominate someone and walk away with a 4-1 decision with 4 mins if riding time. I don’t get it. Otherwise these guys are doing their best with what they have right now. Hopefully our match IQ will improve next year. We haven’t done ourselves a lot of favors.
