IIRC Sloan was a late bloomer in HS. Maybe he had some injuries too. I think he was a below the radar guy that didn't get much interest from ISU, UNI or Iowa (or other top programs). Shapiro was a much higher rated recruit at the time. Just goes to show you how big a jump someone can make from HS to college.

I heard his dad may have been an issue in his recruitment by the in state schools
