Big 12 Refs Strike Again

We need to play better. I was hoping we would win, but we didn't deserve to win. I thought Georges and Hogue both really struggled tonight. We need Georges, Naz, Hogue, and Monte to play well every night and great on some nights. They are the nucleolus of the team and we need them to be better overall. Time for them to step it up.

That being said, the Big 12 refs are terrible. There seems to be no consistency to how the call a game.

I'm more upset at the way they let Gathers move people around at will...he lowered his shoulder to move Hogue out of the way to score in the 1st half (right before he did a major flop on the McKay charge) and then late in the game on a Baylor missed free throw...he pushed Niang under the basket and then went over him to get the rebound.

There's no way a dude who's that physical should go an entire game (and grab 15 rebounds) without a foul called on him.

That being said, if ISU would have decided to play for more than 15 minutes the entire game they would've won...and it's pathetic when you can't even hit 60% of your free throws.

I'm not, he used his extended arm to clear Monte out, but I think it looked worse because Monte slipped. I don't think it was that much of a push. It was enough to get Monte off balance and then he slipped. I think if the tables were flipped and they called it on Morris at the end of a game I would think it was pretty soft.

Oh I agree. I mean it WAS a push, he extended his arm, he gained an advantage..... but you're not getting that call....sadly we have a growing portion of our fan base that is just searching for bad calls, to play victim, excuse bad play? I dunno....it's gotten pretty out of hand.

There are no Big 12 refs.

One other strange call was when BDJ went to the hoop and the guy slid over late they called a blocking foul, the ref even signaled it, and they called it on the floor? Not sure I've ever seen a play that close to the basket called blocking and not reward the offensive player with a trip to the line.

This makes no sense.

Two things.

To quote the great Fran Frashilla if that's a call your going to make at the beginning of the game is a call you need to make at the end of the game. There should be no preference based on situation.

I can understand a chicken wing or an elbow push off. You need to get better on defence to prevent that. However Cherry straight stiff armed himed him for 3 seconds. It was blatantly obvious.

You acknowledge it was illegal and admit that it was a foul buy we just didn't get the call. Then you go on to say people are searching for bad calls? Who's searching? It's been found.

Searching for bad calls?

right...I just mean NOBODY is getting that call, and we would flip out if that was called against us. Not saying it's right....but that's how they officiate.

as far as a small piece of our fan base....I dunno.....I mean some folks will ignore the massive number of dumb things we did all game....and the main reason we lost was that one call...which...is insane. Not all...but seems some are just looking for bad calls, which oddly are only bad when we lose.

I am not gonna blame it on the obvious no call. Baylor was hitting everything. To blame this loss on any one factor is absurd. Got to regroup, refocus, and not let this get to us. Time to move on to greener pastures guys!!!

Well you're just being part of that crowd if you choose to ignore THIS dumb thing that happened. I don't see what you're seeing. You can pay attention to all of the things.

It was a very obvious and hard push off, refs aren't perfect and didn't make the call. Players have to move on and focus on KU now. Crazy that were able to come back like that, showed a lot of guts.

There's a guy that's a Sales Manager at Pella Corp that's a good enough ref to ref the championship football game. He actually says he works on his reffing skills by walking around the office. That's not good enough.

Refs need to be paid more, and they need to be held accountable.

Now that I'm done venting I guess I should point out that this crap is going to happen the rest of the season on the road. I personally can't wait until we play at OU and get to watch Spangler literally toss people around in the paint.
