Big 12 Expansion (new thread)

The only way CSU works is if network(s) pay this league a premium to play late night games and CSU can start 9 or 9:30 CST. Maybe the same for BSU. Maybe if there are enough networks/streaming services wanting live content and at times where there isn't much competition. Pete Thamel hinted at that.

I think we should prepare for the possibility of 9:00 PM CT games when we play at BYU for this reason. UNLV game this year will be good practice.

What’s the argument for Boise over Houston?

More consistently better football. If we were adding the four best available football programs without regard for location/markets/whatever then Boise State would have easily been one.

Boise is kind of past its shot, they haven't been as successful and they are having problems getting people to games. They never really took the next step going to the mwc. I feel like they've hit their ceiling at best as a brand. I really wish there were a couple mountain region teams we could add along with BYU but no one really makes sense. I feel like there would be a few other teams that would be above Boise as far as mwc teams I'd want to bring in.

My thought as well. They will always have the Statue of Liberty and their spot in CFB lore but I don’t see them able to hold their own at the next level.

Well this is awkward considering a couple of drubbings ISU has taken in the past by FCS teams but was apparently B12 material.
Lol, how long has Iowa State been in the Big 12? We are talking about teams wanting to get in, not teams already in like Kansas who lose to FCS teams on a regular basis.

When ISU draws 12k in a game like CSU did in 2019, we can talk. I was at a game in 02 or 03 and they were #16 in the country. They announced like 28k but there wasn’t even that. It’s a terrible environment. CSU isn’t ever going to grow into a P5 program in terms of interest.

Got a what if I'd like someone to clarify for me.

If OuT leaves after this season as speculated and the AAC schools aren't available until 2024. Could we add a second independent such as Army as a rental to maintain a CCG?

I think if we add BYU and play a full 8-game round robin, we are still able to host a CCG. The rules now are either a full round robin or divisions of equal size in a 12+ school league. Otherwise you need a waiver like AAC now without UConn. And minimum conference size by NCAA rules is 8.

I think you are suppose to have 12 but we got an exemption for 10.

The military schools I think are a different animal entirely and not ever in play.

Navy and Air Force are in conferences. Like I said only as a two year rental to maintain a CCG.
That’s my bad. You’re right. It might be possible but I think there’s special rules for them, as there probably should be. If it is a rental deal maybe it would be a good thing.

I get why the Big XII might want to do it, but why would Army want to do it? They don’t depend on TV money to pay their bills so why go through the hassle of rescheduling all their existing games for the next 2 years? Also, I believe they have stated in the past that they have no interest being in a P5 conference.

I've said it before and I will say it again. The infatuation by some on these boards with Colorado State is mind boggling. When realignment comes up nobody outside of our fans talk about them because they bring nothing to the table.
