Better this year?

Because they weren't as good and then they worked hard and improved. It makes sense to most of us.

apparently not to you and the op. his statement is basically saying that a player x in his freshman year who is not as good as player y in his sr yr is better then player y when player x is a sophomore.

but keep being smarmy.

exactly my point. The OP doesn't seem to grasp that concept, based on this statement:

And if they are more talented, why weren't they playing last year instead of the guys who played in front of them?

and it seems that the op is not really asking a question, but more is convinced he has the answer, and any argument to the contrary is incorrect.

Where is the evidence they have been replaced by more talented players? And if they are more talented, why weren't they playing last year instead of the guys who played in front of them? I get the scheme thing but there's a law of diminishing returns at work there. I'm not sure I expect a lot from that element though it is a solid point.

How about the fact that the many of the new players in the 2 deeps were recruited by this staff for this system. They are now a year stronger and more experienced.

I get it, guys. But the season hasn't started so why are we so convinced these players are better than last year's?

why are you convinced that they aren't?

One word......Quarterback.

Thats exactly what we have to hope... After losing our starting QB, Best RB by far, Best WR by far, Best TE by far, 2 starting linemen.

But who knows, its why sports are fun. Who knows how things end up this year. Never know if and when someone is going to step up and play big.

Happens every year on every team. Young players rarely beat out older experienced guys.

Seriously? It is called experience. Talent isn't the only variable. If you believe PR has upgraded the level of recruits then we should be replacing past players with more talented players.

True freshmen or even redshirt freshmen are rarely ready to become starters. It takes time for them to develop physically and mentally.

A new season brings new hope. If you want to be negative that is your prerogative, but I don't see the purpose. A lot of your concerns will be answered in couple of weeks when you get to see these guys for the first time.

More depth throughout and therefore able to do more with what we have.

A defense that has really come together.

3rd year with a new coach.

a couple solid recruiting classes that are now coming into their own and shold be able to make an impact.

A quarterback, that although unknown at this level, has put up big numbers in JC.

A coach who says this is the best team he's had. Coaches normally don't say that, so hearing that gets me pumped for the season.

A couple new receivers that should make an impact plus other receivers that have had another year of experience and work to improve.

We are still undefeated in 2011 so why not be excited?

Need any other reasons?

I get it, guys. But the season hasn't started so why are we so convinced these players are better than last year's?

because the coaches have said as much. Because players tend to get better with additional coaching, preparation, and weight room time. Because we're another year into CPR's system, expecting more playing time from players CPR recruited to play in his system.

All of the players are making it known on twitter that they are ready for this year, that they've all worked their ***** off this summer and are really out for some blood to prove people wrong and show everyone what cyclone football is all about. With Jake Knott as a captain on this team, I know we will always be seeing everyone's all. I expect great things out of this team because they believe that they can win every game on the schedule.

This, along with a more experienced D. If Guyer is named the man I'm even a little more optimistic.

Receivers are the only possible gaping hole I see, but really, how much worse can they be?

Record will likely not reflect the quality of the team, which is unfortunate. Tough to expect a bowl game with this schedule. 5-7 with one big win and a bunch of competitive losses would be a decent season in my book.

That statement makes a pretty big assumption.
You don't think that after a summer with one of the best S&C coaches in the nation won't make them stronger, as well as having spring & fall camps to make them more experienced? It's so obvious that you are a troll.

Don`t underestimate the impact of offensive players that were recruited to fit this system. It could provide huge results.
