Barnes ready for visits

welllll.... the longer this goes on the less i like our chances but im still holding out hope that he will choose the good guys. he would change the direction of our program forever. and the recruiting classes of '10 and '11 are shaping to be HUGE
Actually the longer this goes the better I feel. If we see him at just about every home game like we did last year then I really like our chances. This is Greg's chance to sell him on the program. He can win a lot in the non-conference and hopefully do alright in the big 12 and show harrison that the program is progressing.

If he doesn't pick ISU I sure hope he steers clear of schools we normally play such as any Big 12 school and Iowa. That would be a kick in the junk if he'd sign with Kansas and we have to play him twice a year.
I'd love to see him at ISU, he's be an instant hit here being the hometown kid but like any kid I want him to go somewhere he will be happy and if that means that is not ISU then we have to respect that decision too.

This kid would appear to be a can't miss talent but to say he would change the direction of our program forever is a little over the top. Let me ask you, did OJ Mayo change the USC program forever? Did Michael Beasley change the K-State program forever?
The people that change the direction of the program in a major way in college athletics are the coaches. Period. The key to having a long term solid program is having a top notch coach that can both recruit on an ongoing basis as well as coach on the floor.
Bottom line IMO is that McD has to prove he can win at ISU to have a chance at Barnes. Additionally, a structured half court offense is not what players like Barnes are looking for. I've heard whispers of a shake up in the offense but will believe it when I see it. Hope we land him but not holding my breath.
I keep hearing Barnes will be a one and done, but I don't know where that idea came from! If he is looking for a school that has a good business college, as has been reported, then why would he be gone after one year. Sounds to me like he must be interested in a college that will develope him as a basketball player and also as a marketable professional after he is done playing basketball. If he was one and gone, he should care less about what he is learning, just what a school could give him in the preperation for the pros!!
in order to better out chance we would defintely have to win. im optimistic about our team, but can we win enough to convince him to come here over Duke, UCLA, UNC and others?
well considering they both just played last year, i dont know. but what i do know is that both schools got a lot of national recognition and are rolling in some very high ranked recruits! thats pretty obvious. having freshman phenom means you will get tons of exposure and that definitely helps with the recruiting. also we have dykstra coming in, chim kadima, and maybe kyle kelm. then 2011 there are some very good recruits we are on, like chasson randle and tavian pomlee
Because they all say that. It sounds good but if he wants a good business school he can go to the NBA and get Millions of dollars. That is a good business.
If this kid is as good as he is being billed...the answer is money...major life altering money. You can always come back to get your degree after your knees are shot from playing.
Let me tell you a little story. I coached a kid in baseball. He signed letter of intent to play at Tulane (both great academics and great baseball). He and his parents were totally committed to him going to college because they all value a college education. He was a first round draft talent but fell to the third round because most teams did not believe they could sign him (would have been a wasted pick). The Astros drafted him in the third round and offered him enough money that he and his parents changed their minds about the timing of college. He signed a contract with the Astros that provides he and his family with life altering wealth and also commits the Astros to pay for his college education when his career is over.
My story is about baseball...the money offered to lottery picks in the NBA is even greater than what MLB draftees get.
We all know this hasn't been and isn't going to be over soon. Barnes is going to take his time and make the right decision... for him.

Would you have ever asked that question about K-State or USC prior to those players going there? I guess that is a change in the program then.
As well, I'm sure it helps in recruiting when you can point to players who have recently came to your school, played one year, took you to the NCAA tournament, and then went to be top 5 draft picks. That changes the direction of your program forever.
If JT would have left Iowa State after one year would you consider him to have changed our program forever?
