Barnes ready for visits

I think this really comes down to if he wants to be part of "Elite" team, (which always isn't so elite)
OR
Average 20+ Points a game at ISU be 1st team All Conference and if the 2010 class goes as planned we would have a Very nice team. (AKA - Be the Man)

If he is looking for a school that has a good business college, as has been reported, then why would he be gone after one year. Sounds to me like he must be interested in a college that will develope him as a basketball player and also as a marketable professional after he is done playing basketball. If he was one and gone, he should care less about what he is learning, just what a school could give him in the preperation for the pros!!

JT stayed two years. Fizer stayed three. I don't consider either to have changed our program forever. If they did, we wouldn't be where we are now.

#1 is right on this - only coaches can change a program forever.

If you are saying JT's first season at Iowa State didn't change this program for ever, I don't under stand that. It was the best season our program ever had. It is what we compare every team to and we all strive to have this program become again.

Yeah Fizer helped, but if Tinsley would have gone pro then we would view him as a player that in one year completely changed our program and how we are viewed around the country.

I agree that they changed how we were looked at across the country while they were there. Once we went back to bottom third finishes and getting our ***** kicked in every road game we're viewed as a terrible team that every fanbase thinks should be an "W" when they play. The years he was here have changed our expectations for the program more than outside expectations.

We weren't specific about what kind of lifetime changes we were talking about.

But having an Elite 8 banner hanging from the rafters and a history of putting players in the NBA helps recruiting. Obivously since then we haven't kep the winning pace up and there have been some unforseen problems. But I don't think anyone here will forget JT's first year and in my opinion that is a lifetime change.
 
I think we're just defining "change in the program" differently, that's all.
 
I agree. I'm not saying that one player can guarantee dominance for your program forever. That's not going to happen. However, a one and done can help win a National Championship and for Iowa State that would be a forever change.
 
Does he really need to visit here? I mean the kid lives in ames, what are we gonna do take him to a Neb vs. I-State football game or a Kansas vs. I-State basketball game? He has pry done both of them (not that they will ever get old to me) i'm just saying. I'm sure he has seen Hilton a number of times and he knows the players fairly well, it seams, from playing with them last summer...

really hope he stays close to home though, he would have the largest fan base if he stays here...and i'm sure we would all travel to watch him.

I see what you mean, but even then I think it's debatable. I thought the EE season would really propel us forward, and I thought the championships would make us a contender for a long time.

Since then we've only made the tourney once and our highest B12 finish has been 5th. IMO when I talk about changing the program I mean changing the direction of what happens on the court. The EE had almost zero effect even when Larry was here because he didn't get the players in to continue that.

I want Barnes to come here but his impact is completely overblown at this point. The Beazor led KSU to a great season last year but now they are picked to finish 8th in the conference this season. Getting Barnes would be wonderful - however getting talent on a consistent basis is the only thing that will really change our program and that falls on the coaches.

To be fair, Stinson/Blalock came close to continuing that at least. I don't remember (I've tried to block it all out) if we lost any good recruits that we knew about because of the scandal and then the Wayne Morgan era . . .

Well, also to be fair, Stinson/Blalock weren't looking at ISU until Wayne came on board. Larry and his staff were not great recruiters but he tried to correct that with Wayne, apparently too little too late.

Well, we could say Fizer and Tinsley have changed the fans expectations forever. I now think we can win B12 titles in basketball.
