B1G

They were when they were invited. I think it was right around the time they entered the Big 10 they were stripped of their AAU membership.
Yeah, that actually is a really funny story. They were given the option of voluntarily giving it up for a few years but, because they're Nebraska, forced a vote thinking they'd be supported by the other Big 10 schools who then all voted Nebraska out of the AAU

We eventually would get worse in the B1G in football. A good portion of our recruits come here so they can play in or near their home in Texas at least 2x a year. We move to the B1G and that dries up. I don't know the number of Texas recruits that Nebraska still pulls up, but I bet it's a harder sell today.
So then we are stuck recruiting the north and east. And whatever
We need 2 more teams in conference and split divisions like the old Big 12. Dilute the conference like the B1G.

Bingo

The difference for ISU football in the b1g/Big12 is that in the Big 12 ISU can normally compete with (and win) vs Kansas, Texas Tech, West Virginia, and maybe TCU. If ISU would join the b1g they would have a good chance to compete (and constantly beat) with Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Rutgers, and maybe Maryland.

Not in football

Since 2010 the MWC has had ONE team finish in the top 10 in the final BCS rankings. That was TCU, who is now no longer in that conference. The B1G has had 5. That's a pretty substantial difference, especially considering that the one school for the MWC that did finish is now a member of a different conference. So, yes, competition is A LOT better in the B1G than the MWC.

Plus another cream puff on the schedule and we wouldn't have to use Iowa as a non-conference game.

Honestly if we go to 4 power conferences I could see it. Hell they added Maryland and Rutgers. If there ends up being a mad scramble they would probably be willing to take us, like how we took TCU.

But the most likely thing is we stay in the Big12 and keep the Power 5 conferences.

You guys are crazy if you wanna join the big 10. That conference sucks. Most boring teams ever. Just ask Nebraska. Every single Nebraska fan I talk to hates the big 10 and wants back in. Bunch of damn whiners, grow some balls.

And...get off my lawn

You think we're irrelevant now, we would be a complete little brother in the B1G. Best chance we've ever had to take a step up in football is the current Big XII configuration.

If the Big 12 dissolves most likely we end up in the SEC or ACC. Those conferences would want to claim Iowa TV sets.

It's pretty much where we belong geographically, culturally, academically, and athletically. But we offer nothing that they don't already have.

Actually, I believe the Big Ten is still looking for two more schools. Ideally they would like to have 16 teams total. Take Kansas and ISU to the big ten and it would add a lot of basketball power, and the rest matches well. I say, do it fast and do it now, have it ready for the 2015 football season. Write Pollard today!!!

I'd love that, but I wonder how thrilled the powers that be in Kansas would be about splitting up KU and Purple Kansas.

A move couldn't happen until the grant of rights is almost up....and I hope for ISU's sake we renew it well before it expirers. I would love to get into another power conference, just don't see it happening.

I would love to join the B1G.

The only better option would be if all the conferences fell apart and we somehow fell into a makeshift league with:

Iowa State
Iowa
Nebraska
Missouri
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Kansas
Kansas State
..Illinois
..Northwestern

Teams we could compete with

Here's a Map!

In their first three years Nebraska has won/lost at basically the same clip in the B1G as they did in their last three years in the Big 12. And that's with the B1G orall at a pretty historic low as a conference in football. Do you really think ISU would come in and all of a sudden win at a much higher rate when the Huskers haven't been able to?

I agree with this. I don't think a B1G schedule is as ragged as what happens in the B12, but it's not like ISU is even competitive enough to conclude that they'd all the sudden be good. No matter the conference, ISU is still marginal in football.

The Big 12 is as good a home as any for ISU. Wish we could get more home games with the TEX schools in winter months. I love a good snowy game.
