Auto-Bid Madness 2018

Wow -
Checking the last score for today before heading for bed.
WSU 24
Oregon 17
AT HALFTIME...

I thought Big 10 games were boring....looks like Pac12 is giving them a run (okay, walk) for their money!

Ugh.

Related note: I'm convinced none of the Pac-12 bubble teams want to get a tournament bid. UW lost to Oregon State in opening round. That pretty much kills the discussion for The Huskies. And Arizona State lost to Colorado, now can only sit & watch.

Only auto-bid secured Wednesday:
Patriot: Bucknell

Composite results are up-to-date.

Still 2 contestants who need to revise their SWAC choice (due to Grambling's postseason ban) -- I'll bump that again later today.

OU tied it up 53 all, and won 64-62 in OT. Powerful lot of defense in that game (aka poor shooting?)...

Nevada down to UNLV by 8 at the half. There will be a NCAA tourney bid thief from the Mountain West if Nevada doesn't win that tournament. Nevada is in regardless of whether they win the tourney or not.

Collin Sexton isn’t the best player in CBB, but I’d pick him first in a pick up game. I’m pretty happy he didn’t get paid enough to go to KU so I can still cheer for him.

Things like UMBC winning drop the chances of the 16-1 happening this year. I want the better team in these low-level tourneys to win and that was Vermont.

Good for UMBC and their fans though. I had no idea this was a DI basketball program. I usually don’t have to google them.

Yup - they have it right now. But they've been struggling with all of that the whole week. There was one tournament that they didn't have the bracket for until yesterday. :)

Yikes!

I've been relying on CBS champ week brackets -- they seem to be on top of it.

Re: America East: none of us got that one. Only one of us didn't select Vermont, and that pick was Hartford.

Yeah, Vermont would've been 13-range seeding, so UMBC get auto-bid moves everyone else up and the low-15s/16s are getting progressively worse.

Only team whose conference is in 16-seed area is SF Austin, and if SFA wins, probably jumps to a solid 15. So that'd be the only team I could possibly imagine pulling a 16-over-1 (maybe Ivy champ).

NIT would have been tough for Iowa St. to get into since a lot of mid major 1 seeds are losing.

That, plus a lot of power-5/6 teams that will fall off the bubble.

Even if ISU had stayed more injury-free, could've gotten to 17-14, thereabouts -- but this season, probably wouldn't have been enough for NIT.

PapaLew was over there laughing at me at the end of the UT-Arlington/Louisiana Lafayette game. He said he was trying to imagine me on the sidelines as a coach. I have kind of a potty mouth when the players aren't doing what I want them to do (and they can't hear me - I never cuss out players for their mistakes when I'm at a game).

So. That game didn't go in my favor, and I switched over to the RI/St Joe game. And now RI is in the lead. )@)Y%!_(Y(&*Y^_!)@(*Y%!&)^+*(@$Y

I really need to stop watching games!
