Aus 10th PICK!

Great fit in Seattle. Can back up Sue Bird at point and could play the 2 spot as well. Plus she gets to team with fellow Aussie Lauren Jackson. Congrats to Aus!

Having Sue Bird as mentor at Seattle? Thats awesome!

Wow! Great News!

The West coast is a best place if she stays with the team. A little bit closer to home and the NW has mild winters.

Way to go Alison! Your career is just starting and the Olympics maybe!

"...her three-point range is pretty much mid-court-in."

Yeah, we're gonna miss that.

Good luck, Aus...

STORM: 2010 WNBA Draft Live

There were a few tense moments in the first round because the Storm had established Alison Lacey as the player it coveted from the beginning of the draft. When Lacey was still on the board at the 10th pick, there was very little discussion needed, and applause in the Draft Room when the selection was announced by WNBA President Donna Orender. Lacey gives the Storm a long-term answer behind Sue Bird, a spot the team has been trying to fill since another Aussie (Tully Bevilaqua) left for Indiana as a free agent after the 2004 championship season. She's an excellent three-point shooter and a steady ballhandler who has the size at 6-0 to play alongside Bird in the backcourt as well.

Rebecca Lobo just said it was a good pick because she'd be able to speak Australian to Lauren Jackson.

Unfortunately, I think she was serious.

We knew this, but, this high selection drives it home. The high regard for Aus among the WNBA shows how big a loss this for us. I'll have to go home to get the tweets. What does BF say?

Tongue in cheek from Lobo?

Lacey once was quoted saying she'd, "rather text people than speak on the cell" because people didn't understand her. Lobo, I think, is a knowledgeable lady and it was maybe thinking that the two Aussies may talk about Australia of which Lacy often missed while in Ames.
