Audi Crooks to Transfer

Anybody who says they would turn down $1.4 million has never had a $1.4 million offer sheet put in front of them to sign.
If she believes she can build her long-term brand around OSU (one year to do it) or the WNBA, then yeah it's a no-brainer. If she had stayed here for less money she would have had ISU related endorsements for the rest of her life, that's gone now as she has no brand value built around ISU any longer (Fareway, etc.)

I’m just amazed how fast a “fan” base can turn on a player. World we live in I guess. But I can almost guarantee not a single person on this board would turn down 1.4 million at age 21 to play one year of basketball at a different school
Now we can’t say it was 1.4 difference. What was she offered to stay or at other places. If it was 400 to stay, that’s going to be jump money. If it was going to be 1MM with all sources, then you gotta look at all angles.

She wants to go WNBA, she now has to change the knocks on her. If she doesn’t get in shape and truly make an effort on defense, then the WNBA will say, that’s all you get because a coaching change did nothing. If she staysed at ISU, she can work the angle that that is what ISU had her do and she can do the other things. She could hammer coaching.

I think she made the right choice to get the bag because I don’t see much of a pro career out of her.

For 1.4 million I'd rather spend it on mbb.
I have to think this is above the cap spending for OSU. There is no way they are dedicating $4 million from Rev share to WBB. The question is who is paying that above the cap and why? OSU averaged 3,309 tickets sold, so probably less real attendance.

Everyone would.

College fans in the new world need to learn to not get attached to anybody. The current system is effectively an unrestricted yearly free agency for 100% of players. Get used to players changing en masse every year, including ones you never thought would.

...and yes, that does suck overall as a product specifically for the fans, but this system was never designed for fans.

The amount of hurt feelings in this thread is hilarious.
I’m overjoyed she’s gone. Wish her the best, glad she got paid but now I can enjoy watching WBB again.

Watching the mail bag. Sounds like we have a 6-2 forward coming in that will be perfect in a small ball unit to exploit her deficiencies. We’ve got three transfers that lead their teams in scoring. If we only had one player returning I’d want it to be Jackson.

Of course it is, and whoever paid it obviously has deep pockets and wanted to spend his/her money this way. More power to the person.

I've seen this argument a few times and have yet to see a real example of what it would look like. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush... especially when the two in the bush are completely made up hypotheticals.

The crazy thing is I doubt Audi leaves Iowa State if the whole roster explosion doesn't happen. Or whatever happened to cause the roster explosion doesn't happen.

I haven’t seen a section of the fanbase that’s butthurt she left to get paid.

I see the section ( myself included ) happy that she’s gone and her defenders that want to find someone/thing to blame for her leaving.

Spend it well Audi.

As an ISU fan and alum I no longer consider her a Cyclone and won't deny that there's a part of me that doesn't want her to succeed given the choice to transfer to another Big12 school.

As a parent, I can also understand and agree with taking that kind of bag given nothing else is a certainty. I probably would advise my kid to do the same in the same situation.

Both things can be true at the same time. Making the best choice still usually comes with consequence.

No idea. I just said it would be something to consider and I'm sure she probably did. $1.4 mil probably makes it a moot point.

In a completely made up scenario, lets take $1.4 mil from OSU verse say $500,000 from ISU. (again completely made up) so the difference is $900,000. So the question is, would long-term endorsement deals with Fareways, Agri-whatevers, spokesperson, maybe even a university position be more than $900,000 at ISU vs OSU.

It's just something to look at and I'm sure she did. These days it is a personal financial decision. She has every right to advance her career the best way she thinks she can. She owes the university and fans nothing, it's just today's college athletics.

I trust anyone shaming Audi would never leave their own job if offered this kind of money, or any raise for that matter.
I don't blame her for taking the money. Generally one employee does not impact everyone in a company and you are left standing there with the CEO going what happened?

season salary for best men's college bball players? $4-7m
season salary for best NBA players? $50-$60m

season salary for best women's college bball player? $1.4m
season salary for best WNBA player? $1.4m

what a world.

Good for Audi - get paid as much as you can while you can!!

Well, I was 21, 40 years ago, so the equivalent is $465,000 at that time. HELL YES, I would have jumped to get $465,000 back then.

I don’t blame a kid one bit for going on the market and taking all the money they can get. However, I’m an Iowa State fan, you leave Iowa state I don’t care about you or your game anymore. Good for Audi.

I think to many people go all in on one way. A few things can be true. You would be dumb not to go get the money, you would also be dumb to think everyone at the school you left should still cheer for you on a rival team

What is being reported for Oklahoma State WBB Top Players:

Heard - $2 Mil
McGill - $1.3 Mil
Crooks - $1.4 Mil

So those three are reportedly getting $4.7 Mil (plus whatever the rest of the team gets) - supposedly last year's UCLA team that won the title had a payroll of $5 Mil so that is in the ballpark for a top team.

Side note - I do think AC preference would have been to leave the Big 12 but her options were becoming limited so she decided to take the offer from OSU.

PS - You do not need to respond and say this is untrue - it is what the insiders are reporting.
