Audi Crooks to Transfer

I said this a week or more ago in the Bill thread, but noting it will be nearly impossible for ISU to get to the final four in WBB, due to lack of parity at the top, there’s literally reason to be mad at someone like Audi or Addy for choosing to either go to one of those teams that actually does have a chance…or to just take a big paycheck. ISU leadership has nothing to be ashamed of with the program they have. They just would have invest significantly more to change things. That likely isn’t in either possible or in the best interest of the university at this time.

NIL has crippled all of the momentum the women's game had towards more parity. It's literally back to like 6-8 teams that will even have a shot at a final 4. Iowa fans are slowly starting to realize they aren't even close to being in that discussion....

If you haven't, the discussion on Williams and Blum is really relevant and insightful to Audi transferring and WBB.

For one, I was completely blind to that the team didn't enjoy playing together. I thought they were just worn down from a disappointing season.

Just had this conversation over the weekend how you can basically fill out your WBB brackets and advance all 1 and 2 seeds to the Elite 8 and it's no shock who winds up in the Final 4 nearly every year. Those schools were already powerhouses before NIL and now can basically assemble super teams because they can outspend everyone in NIL. Most schools are not going to be able to spend that kind of NIL money as there are only a few WBB programs in the country that generate positive revenue as it is. It's unfortunate but there really is no good solution to the problem right now as long as the best players are chasing NIL money.

Agree. But yet, there are many on this board who believe our best players are not chasing NIL cash.

I have no doubt that Audi, Addy, and Jada are but I doubt the rest are going to garner anything of significance for NIL. I'm not saying NIL is the ONLY reason they are leaving but it surely will factor into where they end up at I bet. All 3 were All-Big 12 level players so they are going to get some offers.

Blum’s take on lure of more $$$ for athletes leaving was interesting.
For example, he pointed out that Lipsey and Momcilovic were very close to taking other offers, until Blum and donors scrambled to find more funds for them.

Heard over the weekend Alisa Williams is going to receive well into six figures so to think that others are not chasing the $$ may not be correct.

I’ve heard much the same from inside the athletic dept. There were some things going on that were well hidden. Based on the women’s comments you’d never know it. But as the last 1/3 of the season unfolded you could see (hindsight) something wasn’t right. I remember seeing a comment somewhere on CF that if the order of transfer announcements changed we might not have seen some of the starters leave. More truth to that than most could imagine.

That is surprising considering she is very limited offensively and somewhat adequate as a backup post defensively. If that is the going rate for someone that has averaged 8.6 MPG over 3 years that is crazy.

There is absolutely zero chance this is true. None. I swear some of these rumors have to be damage control from the program. Because there is no way a women's basketball player who averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds in 12 minutes on a very average team is getting "well into 6 figures."

It's not hard to figure out how this stuff happens. A bunch of girls leave a decaying program and the coaches and staff need an excuse beyond the awful environment and archaic schemes. So they start rumors of the great NIL boogeyman and his 6 figure contracts. Give me a break.

Good discussion from Blum and Williams on the WBB exodus on the pod.

Two points of contention/feedback: they spent 30 minutes on the realities of NIL which I have no doubt are real and serious. That is what it is. But the big second part is the underperformance of the team. If we had lived up to expectations it’s a lot easier to keep players at less than market rate.

CW said this, but they only spent about 2 minutes on this piece, when it’s half the problem; ISU was a really bad watch this year (and the past couple years). I don’t really enjoy WBB and only watch ISU. But last year was about as bad of basketball as I’ve willingly watched in my life. Literally middle school quality of ball. That’s a huge part of the problem and more in our direct control than our current NIL situation.

Number two is Blum taking any blame for the exodus. That is definitely not on Blum. We should not be paying any WBB player anywhere close to $1M per year, much less Audi Crooks, who is a one dimensional player.

Comparing her to Dishon is total apples to oranges. There are tons of schools with money to burn in the men's game. You can probably count on one hand the number of schools willing to burn 6 figures on a rotation player in the women's game.
