Audi Crooks to Transfer

Explain to me how TJ does it then?

This young people crap drives me crazy. If young people are the problem, then college athletics, where everybody is by definition young, isn’t for you and you need to get out of it.
What exactly does TJ do? The rest of your post doesn’t even make sense in the context being applied.

Bingo.

Fans will get what they're willing to donate to a degree. It's obvious people are willing to donate to FB & MBB (I think Dresser does well with Wrestling all things considered.)

People act like telling Fennelly to ride off into the sunset and hire a different coach would equal some huge new NIL donations to WBB. And, I just don't see it tbh.

If the rumors of what Jada Williams was offered from UCLA/other powerhouses are true, then we really need a WBB sugar momma or sugar daddy. It's wild to me if the figures are accurate for Jada in NIL. A sport that loses money every year and paying players that kind of money is eye popping (and unsustainable) to me....at least FB & MBB programs ultimately turn a profit.

I would suggest the wrestling fan base is a different beast. They can get money from former wrestlers who have a good career and big wrestling fans. Which is a good thing. Former wrestlers supporting their sport. Football and mens basketball get money from the mass of people. Womens sports don't have a ton of rich alumni to get their money from. Not trying to be sexist. It's just the facts of the matter.

Fennelly has one more year on his contract right? What is another year going to do? Unless fennelly has some buy out, which I doubt.
I'm assuming he's hoping to hand off the program and on his son? Which....yeah, not sure if that will solve our issues. Just start over.

Just real sad we lost a local player who would have been one of those Niang type former players and a fan favorite in Ames for the rest of her life. Would be tough choice, cash over whatever that is worth to a person.
Fennelly does have a buyout... that's why ISU is letting finish out the rest of his contract. Cheaper for ISU.

I'm sorry but I don't buy the tid bit that some of the women felt entitled. Fennelly appears like the one who believes HE is entitled. He lost the locker room due to his coaching style, favoritism, loyalty to his son and other assistants. And now we're stuck another year. $$$$ Thanks CBF

I don't see how a school like ISU can invest in a non-revenue enhancing sport like WBB in the NIL era. There just isn't broad enough interest in the sport, and there isn't enough money to go around if you're committed to remaining relevant in FB, MBB and wrestling. Add in the reality that WBB is essentially a non-competitive landscape where the same half-dozen programs dominate the sport and go to the Final Four every year, and yeah, doesn't look very optimistic for the Lady Cyclones of the future. They were an "8 seed!" in the NCAAs and got beat by a team that subsequently got smoked by UConn by 50 in the next round. What's the point?
Why try to remain relevant in wrestling? That’s odd. Loses lots of precious money. One program (and now maybe Okla St) dominates that sport. It’s worse than WBB…

Again, I don’t understand how wrestling is even remotely relevant based on what you’ve said here.

Iowa state averages 10k fans for WBB and about 5k for WR. Penn State just won the championship by 50 points and outscored Iowa State by 150. What’s the point?

We compete better there than we do in WBB as of late, and it loses less money overall at the same time. Not a great comparison (unless the argument is calling a spade a spade and getting out of every non-rev sport... there's a discussion to be had).

The buyout (other than the $700k retention bonus which he's getting either way) is only around $300k. We'd likely save a big chunk of that by hiring a cheaper head coach.

Agreed. Wrestling lost over $2 mil in the latest fiscal year. We aren’t competitive for a national championship, and haven’t been for a long time.
If we’re talking money pits in the ISU athletic dept, wrestling is a big one, as is women’s b-ball.

The guy who drafted this quick hit article for USA Today seems like an idiot. Read for fun and mocking.

Over her three seasons at Iowa State, Crooks has established herself as one of the most efficient inside scorers in the nation, plowing through opponents on her way to a layup, shimmying defenders off with nifty post moves, or nimbly dancing around them.

Nimbly dancing around them?

nailed it

But the roster they buy this year will be the one!! Just you wait!!!

WBB does lose a lot more money, about $4.5 million, but it would be a bad look to defund the most popular women's sport. Both of those sports have a special place in Iowa history, so it would be a big shame if something happened to either.

I’ll share one tidbit I heard directly from someone who knows. They described the ladies (in general) in the locker room as “entitled.” That one word encapsulates everything bad about modern college athletics.
Never trust anything that starts with “I heard…”

I may be wrong now but at one point wrestling’s NIL came from a fund that is separate from the funds any other sport pulls from. So basically wrestling fans support the NIL wrestlers receive. Too bad other non revenue generating sports don’t do the same.

Iowa State is one of the 5 most successful, most important, and most relevant programs in the history of the sport. National championships, national champions, Olympic champions for crying out loud. You could argue that 3 of the 5 most dominant wrestlers in the history of college wrestling were Iowa Staters.

Even in down years, it is always a ranked program and with very rare exceptions, a Top 10 ranked program. WBB has never sniffed that level of success, nor will it. Add in that a significant portion of the alumni and fanbase are (very) emotionally invested in wrestling and yeah, it will be supported here until the end times, even at a perpetual monetary loss.
