Assistant Coaches

Greatest Offensive Line Coach to Ever Live
Team's rushing yards per attempt in 2025: 4.3
Team's rushing yards per attempt in 2024: 4.4
Team's rushing yards per attempt in 2023: 4.0

Terrible Offensive Line Coach Who Doesn't Even Have an Updated Bio
Team's rushing yards per attempt in 2025: 4.4
Team's rushing yards per attempt in 2024: 4.7
Team's rushing yards per attempt in 2023: 4.8

Is rushing yards per attempt the only stat that matters for an OL?

It was clearly written right when he got hired. Its unknown whether the Auburn SID just never updated it or when you search his name on google you are still getting linked to a dated page on Auburn's website and more recent bio pages have been removed (along with several of their coaches from last years staff) because they don't keep archived rosters/coaching staff directories by year like some schools do. Regardless, its a pretty wild thing to use as a justification for how good or not good a coach is.
*that* is not solely what's being looked at. The fact that they gave up the 4th or 5th most sacks in the country last year and have had 7 losses in 5 consecutive seasons is pretty telling. I want winners, not weiners, on this staff

The only reason I would think he wouldn't retire, is because he's from that area. Maybe he wants to give it one final run in front of friends and family, then Campbell can poach Veidt and the defense would essentially stay the same
I believe his kids live in central Iowa though.

I mean it’s auburn. They’ve been a mess of a program since winning it all in 2010

So now we’re drawing conclusions based on 2 seasons when he wasn’t even a coach at Auburn?

Or were you making the point that Auburn was a mess before he got there?

24th overall line while giving up the 4 most sacks in all d1. Seems dubious
Its documented that Jackson Arnold holds the ball way too long

Jackson Arnold, the Auburn QB, has faced scrutiny for holding the ball too long, leading to sacks and turnovers, a trait noted even before his transfer from Oklahoma

Common comments from Auburn fans

"Yes, he held the ball for far too long all game. A lot of the sacks he took were good protection and a decent pocket."

Lastly
The Oklahoma Sooners' offensive line had a historically bad 2024 season, allowing a nation-leading 50 sacks, averaging 3.85 per game, and ranking last in the country.

Jackson Arnold was the QB last year.

This year OU allowed 20 sacks

Not an O-Line issue

I'm inclined to think that rushing against mostly SEC D-lines carries some weight here. Looks like good numbers to me.
It should be noted they play 4 non con games in the SEC. 3 of those are usually against patsies. So they get one extra game to pad stats and bring averages way up. Plus they play one patsie late in the year instead of September, which means a tired football team. Conversely, Clanton didn’t have to coach against SEC d lines. I’m sure out sack total would be up, probably not 42 though

I'm honestly surprised that Campbell didn't poach Veidt right away and take Heacock as an analyst for a year or two. Guess I figured that was the plan the whole time.

According to PFF, Auburn was #54 in Run Blocking & #74 in Pass Blocking.

Their highest graded players (with 200+ snaps) were TE Preston Howard (76.9) & T Xavier Chaplin (75.3)... everyone else either had minimal snaps or was graded at a 71 or below.

Those numbers feel about right after looking at their team stats/reading a little about their offense. What did their PFF run blocking and pass blocking ranking look like in 2023 and 2024? And if you don't mind Ole Miss in 2021 and 2022.

Remember they played in the SEC. Every player is a monster didn’t you hear?

They were 58th (PBLK)/42nd (RBLK) in 2024 & 63rd/62nd in 2023.

Jackson Arnold appears to be a portion of 2025's problems, time to throw was decent at 2.84 seconds (8th in SEC) and average TTT on sacks was 3.75 seconds. He has a comparable TTT as most NCAA QBs.
