That's not a thing.
I’m aware that officially it’s not a thing. Still doesn’t mean they were the best team in the Big 12 that year. Does a banner or whatever really change that for you? Doesn’t for me.

Actually, yes.
Like I can't tell people ISU won a conference title that year because there's no actual record of it

you must also claim that UCF is a national champion thenActually, yes.

Nobody is arguing about a division title because it's not relevant to this conversation. Like it or not, what we did in 2020 is almost identical to winning the B1G West only to lose in the CCG. Granted, we kept it close in our lose, but still.Would I prefer if they won? Absolutely. Doesn’t mean they weren’t the best team in the conference that year though.
I’d rather have done what Iowa State did than be able to claim a division title and get blown out in a CCG like Iowa has done. But hey, at least they got the little banner under their name on Wikipedia for winning the Big 10 West.

Our two coaching options for the foreseeable future are quick stepping stones where the person leaves before actually achieving anything and takes all the good players with them, or finally finding one guy willing to stay and try to develop their way thru many years into a star program for a little while through ebbs and flows.Do people not realize there’s 34 teams getting DOUBLE the money we’re getting from a media deal, and another 32 getting about the same as us. If we fire CMC, we are not getting our top pick for a cream of the crop hire.
YOU may think ISU is a destination job that coaches will take less for. That’s just not a reality. We are extremely lucky with CMC and I really question your intelligence if you think we should fire him and go bargain hunting
2017 when they went undefeated, yeahSorry, not getting the reference.
Did they claim one?
We are not getting invited to the Big 10 or SEC, so our window of relevancy is pretty meaningless. Our conference is a 1 bid league going forward unless the playoffs expand. If we can’t make the conference championship this year then I don’t see how we ever will. Campbell had the easiest path possible and we returned pretty much every starter from last year. He’s proven to us he can’t take the next step. If we are content with that, then I guess so be it. Winning 8 games in a half mid major conference isn’t that amazing even if our history was bad in a big boy conference.Campbell is our best shot. Stupid to even talk of replacing him. The window for relevancy is now. Before the next TV contract. We are in the conversations of the CFP playoffs and Big 12 CCG and still have a realistic shot if we quit making mistakes. And we are doing it while dealing with some decimating injuries. Our starting LB lineup is gone. Tight ends. Secondary. Playing youngsters. If we fail to make it this year then there is next year. But top 4 in a 16 team league is not failure. It just isn’t the ultimate success.
The covid year continues to be an extreme outlier for us. All around just not even close to a normal football season. Teams making playoffs playing 5 total games and teams playing in NY6 bowls that were 3rd in their crappy division at 4-3.I’m aware that officially it’s not a thing. Still doesn’t mean they were the best team in the Big 12 that year. Does a banner or whatever really change that for you? Doesn’t for me.

Just because we played a full conference slate doesn't mean it was normal. You can't just ignore the many starters our opponents were often missing. It was normal for the Big 12.
I claim Margot Robbie as my wife then.2017 when they went undefeated, yeah
So we can discount this season as well due to our missing so many starters with injury. The rot discussion is hereby tabled until next year.Just because we played a full conference slate doesn't mean it was normal. You can't just ignore the many starters our opponents were often missing.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the most impressive thing we did in 2020 was stay healthy during the regular season.

We will never be a program that can have this many injuries and not experience issues from it.As someone who voted yes after the Ohio loss, I can't believe there are still people saying yes. We're 7-2, yes the last two games have sucked but we're literally playing freshman walk ons on defense.
CMC and the Cyclones are exceeding expectations this year.
McCarney, Rhoads, and Chizik never faced a schedule this soft. And never had this level of support and facilities.
Those things can both be true.
It can also be true that CMC no longer is capable of adjusting to the realities of the roster or becoming capable as a gameday coach and managing timeouts and tempo.
We're allowed to notice flaws and offer solutions. Some of us suffered through 0-10-1 during undergrad and have earned our grumpiness.
I think it the coaching staff should be given a huge amount of credit for accomplishing what they have given our injury situation, so yeah, kind of.So we can discount this season as well due to our missing so many starters with injury. The rot discussion is hereby tabled until next year.
2020 wasn't a normal year for football. It doesn't mean our season and winning the Fiesta Bowl means any less, but it wasn't under normal circumstances. It just wasn't.I was just waiting for them to make this argument.
