Has the rot started to creep in?

I think we need to look beyond the won-loss record and look at the product we're putting on the field. If we have a well-coached team that's executing, the wins will come. There's a reason Campbell was conference coach of the year three times.
Ding. It's not that hard to avoid the fire/keep discussion every single game and instead look at the season holistically when it's over. We aren't looking for a 'ship right now, we're looking for steady change and improvement. We've seen plenty of improvement the last couple weekends and we need to continue to see more (and should expect to see more). Good coaches learn and develop just as much as their players do. That's what we're looking for.

There were some legitimate concerns about the last couple seasons and the first 3 games of this season. It seems like the last 3 games the staff and team made some changes and have made lots of improvements. Both things can be true.

Also, Matt should probably get more credit for the off-season changes he made. ST has been a lot better this year overall, Nate has been getting much better at play calling and I have really liked what I have seen the last few games, and I think Clanton is starting to get the oline going and in a couple years should hopefully be a strength of the team.
Yeah.

That's what we were going on.

We wanted change, and Campbell didn't bring it.

Until people started calling him "Hot seat".

Then, after already losing the Iowa game, and surrendering recruiting in the state, and losing to a MAC team, then, finally, Campbell abandoned CampbellBall.

Check my posts.

I wanted change or firings, yes.

Campbell finishes this season, under these circumstances, at .500? I can be sold on keeping him.

Especially if one of those wins is against Texas.

I still want us to win out.

There's also a reason he's lucky to have even ONE win against Iowa.

One.

With elite NFL talent on his rosters, including at QB.

When you start every single season slow, even when you have experience, you are doing something wrong.

If you expect to win out you will be disappointed. If we somehow get to 7-5 that would be incredible. 6-6 would be great and what I'm hoping for. Continue to show improvement and they should be competitive in every game.

I will admit, not being able to beat Iowa is a big problem for me. Yeah, it's just one game of 12. But it's the most important game. I friggin hate EIU and want to see them curb-stomped every game. I don't want to see what we saw in the 4th quarter of this year's game ever again.

I guess the good news is that Campbell took to heart some of the criticism regarding the offense after that game (and Ohio) and has clearly opened things up since then. Last three games have been so much better. Still room for improvement, absolutely, but I'm off the ledge now.

I am enjoying the progress this young team is showing. Some on here seem to forget how we got here. Two years ago we lost some of the best players ever at Iowa State and a huge senior class. Last year was a struggle as we rebuilt with many new guys in significant roles on the team. Some of those guys (QB, RB, T, TE) playing in those significant roles were getting experience to play even more significant roles this year. Unfortunately, some of those guys were caught gambling and much of that time rebuilding last year was lost. After the gambling news, most of us predicted 4 to 6 wins this season. Few likely thought we would lose to Ohio and beat both TCU and Okie St, but we really seem to be on track with expectations. I hope we get to 6 wins, but I also am excited about what next year brings. We may have lost a QB, RB, T, and TE but I think we will be much better for it next year.

Sometimes in life you just have to step up and admit when something isn’t working anymore. If this doesn’t feel like the Rhoads era or the Prohm times in basketball, then maybe you weren’t around for those eras.
I'll bet he is just getting ready to step up and admit his brain isn't working anymore?

That's a you problem.

Half the posters look like complete fools right now. So myopic.
