Arizona Postgame Thread

I thought he did really well. They have some WRs that are good at getting open and can make tough catches. We weren't going to give them anything deep. Fifita was going to have to drive down the field with the short pass and he did it a few times. Really accurate for a little guy.
I guess he's listed at 5'10" but I always assume those numbers are rounded up while wearing your football cleats on a hard floor.

Or relatedly, Rocco as good as he is is not prototypical QB-height, looks a little short out there and even he's like 3" taller than Fifita. It's wild to imagine someone that size competing against the likes of Caleb Bacon and Big Citrus.

He made some good throws but also missed quite a few that could have been big plays. I also thought his vaunted pocket mobility looked like nothing special yesterday. Great gameplan by Heacock and execution from our guys.

Rocco running the ball late was a little bit of a head scratcher, but I wouldn’t be shocked to know that he changed the play to that rather than Mouse calling that play.

As for starters playing in the four quarter, Arizona didn’t ever really concede the game as witnessed by the late timeouts. I thought that was kind of bush league on their part.

He definitely didn't hurt us with his legs as much as I thought he would.

Agree 100%. I was glad on that last possession with Moberly where they kept calling timeout while down 22 with two minutes left that we threw a pass and kicked a FG. Arizona evidently wanted to keep playing, so let's keep playing.

So what was up with doing a 2pt conversion on the first TD?

Probably a “see what they do if we come out in this formation” type of deal.

They must have given a front Iowa State wanted.

Also, on that first Rocco sneak, that was the worst defensive goal line front I have ever seen. Nobody was even lined up over the center. When I saw it, I was just hoping Mouser/Rocco didn’t try something weird

From a former player under Campbell:

“Yeah we always had that in. You line up in it and if they don’t react correctly, you take the two free points. If they do, then you move in and kick it”.

Take it FWIW.

Makes sense, I did like the tone it set for the game. Put them on the back foot.

The offense with these receivers coming along is honestly just filthy. A more explosive running game would be the only desire at this point.

Defense was great. Hopefully the injuries aren’t serious because that was a devastating number

Did they change something with Verizon phone reception? Last few years I had no issue with my cell reception. I could get on Reddit and read the commentary from the peanut gallery mid game no issue. So far this year I can’t even send a text message.
The SD game was awful. Myself and everyone around had no cell service during the game.

Let me preface this by saying Taylor Mouser is an incredible offensive coordinator.

Short yardage situations...after the Kansas State debacle (fumbled pitch to Sama near the goal line) and the drive killing 3rd and short call to Townsend tonight...

We have one of the best downhill, run through contact backs I can ever remember for us in Carson Hansen. Line him up in power formation and run him right behind Trevor Buhr. If the defense stops that on 3rd and less than a yard you tip your cap.

Can we all also acknowledge Rocco Becht is UNREAL at the QB sneak as well? The guy is allusive behind that offensive line and so damn good at darting through a gap. He has incredible drive in those legs as well. That QB sneak isnt getting stopped in a "must have it scenario."

I guess in short let's be less cute on 3rd and less than a yard. Don't want to see it cost us in a crucial game. I remember last year being 1st and inches for a TD against TTech and not getting into the endzone. Cost us that game.
Thing I really like about Mouser is you can see him learning from mistakes. Fun to watch.

My wife was laughing out loud at the tv commentary when Arizona kept calling those late timouts. Stuff like “apparently Arizona doesn’t realize this game is over.”
