Applebee's Coach's show

Me and a friend went up for the Coach's corner last night, got there about 5:30, way earlier than you need to be. Sat at the bar for a great view of the show. Unfortunately, you can't hear the questions as they come in, but, we had a great time, cold beer and a great bartender.
When the show was over, I had a chance for a quick word with him. The main reason I wanted to talk to him is my son recently earned his Eagle Scout and it is tradition to for the parents to ask people that the Scout admires to write a congratulatory letter to the Scout. The coach said he will do something, this would be the highlight letter, I hope he gets a chance to do it. I also got him to sign my license plate, see avatar.
I know he had to get going since his son had a basketball game last night, but, he didn't seem rushed, and took pictures and signed autographs with everyone that wanted to before leaving. I thought very highly of Hoiberg before this, now we are bordering on man-crush.

Trust me, its better that you couldn't hear the questions. Last night in particular. Man the questions on that show are brutal! I swear, one guy asked Fred if they watch game tape of future.opponents.

I suggest never listening to the coach's show again. Follow Tommy Birch on Twitter. It's much better and it's funny. Smart people no longer call because they don't want to be lumped in with the morons that do. It's unlistenable unless you can figure out a drinking game.
fred doesn't even try to pretend that he likes doing the show any more. My favorite caller is not cyclone jerry. It is mike from Waterloo. Mike called in about 5 weeks straight asking why fred doesn't press more. Fred nicely explained once but mike kept calling in week after week. He couldn't seem to figure out why Fred wasn't taking his expert advice.
My favorite caller from last night for Fred was Wilma, she just rambled on about nothing for 5 minutes.
Here's a little more fodder for your man-crush. During the Royce White year, our youngest son was deployed to Afghanistan. He had to leave in early fall, would be gone until spring. He loves ISU basketball, and was surrounded by Nebraska football fans, so we thought we'd send him an MBB poster for Christmas. I emailed the coach and asked if the team would sign a poster for our son, and explained why. I dropped the red poster of all the guys running toward the camera off at Sukup, and every single member of that team plus the coach signed that poster for us. I have a picture of our son all geared up in front of a massive truck in Afghanistan, proudly holding up that poster.
I love the way our coaches interact with the fans...even dip****s like Cyclone Jerry.
Great story! It's great that our coaches and teams are so approachable, when they don't have to be.
I've called a few times and try to ask questions that provide insight that we normally wouldn't know. I do appreciate questions that ask something that the common fan may not understand or situational things to get inside CFH's head a bit...but you all are right, MOST of the time it's things like "Wondering if you all practice free throws?" "Boy, seems like this league is tough, what do you think coach?" "Do we recruit kids from Iowa?"

Hey Coach, I notice that sometimes the players shoot two free throws while other times they only shoot one. WHAT is the deal with that?!?!?
Mine was Norm, who admonished everyone for calling Fred by his first name, and said everyone should start calling him "Coach Hoiberg" out of respect. He then immediately referred to him as Fred.
Yeah I listened last night (online from way out of state) and it was snooze city except for one or two questions.
After a 'free throws' question my ears perked up when somebody asked about how Giorgios and Custer are looking in practice. A question that has been asked a lot, but one that any fan would always like to hear the answer because the answer isn't exactly obvious and should be changing all the time.
While at ISU I had a night class studio when the Larry Eustachy show came on and I would turn the radio to the LE call in show, much to the groans of the other design students who could give a rip about it. With Fred I'm hoping for genuine insight, with LE it was all about self deprecating humor.
