AP Top 25 Poll

I don’t want to shoot up the poll. We don’t need another 2021 where we are top Ten and everybody is looking to knock us off. Yes, we will gradually go up as the Cyclones win

I’m trying to get to the playoffs (however unlikely) until we no longer have a chance at it. It would be helpful to be ranked to make that happen.

Keep the Clones unranked and under the radar (while winning anyways). That’s where we thrive.
The only way we stay unranked for long is by losing football games. I would prefer we win games, and have the added bonus of all the free press and visibility for the program that comes from being ranked. From any perspective, it’s better to be in the Top 25.

Assuming we play well vs Ohio, I feel like we're going to be borderline top 25 going into the Baylor game.

Rather go unranked against Baylor. ISU does not do will with early rankings as we have seen during Campbell era.

Hope to break the 10 win season record then some meaningless early rankings.

Frankly, no team deserves to be ranked until they have showed the world something. This is why the first poll should come out after about week 3 or 4 not preseason.
I agree. I'm OK with preseason ranking, it's a fun lead-up. But then either wait a few weeks, like you suggest, or scrap the preseason version for first in-season and build mostly from scratch. I know that requires more "work" and most voters probably would just continue from original, but it'd be more reflective.

If we come out and win in convincing fashion we will be knocking on the door.

Meh I look forward to the pre season rankings. People put way too much stock in them though.

IMO that's the biggest issue. The voters don't adjust correctly and there is just way too much bias.

Cbssports has Iowa still at 36.....

My link has ISU at #35 and Iowa at #65,

This line of thinking quickly leads to no team in the country having any good wins, even after three or four or eight weeks.
But the problem is that the talking heads are still talking about Team A having "a win over a top 10 team" because they beat Team B in week 1 or 2 when they were ranked #6 or #9 despite the fact that by week 7 Team B is 4-3.

That's true, if Notre Dame goes 5-7 this year, that's obviously not a quality win for Ohio St anymore. Any top 10 win stats, should reflect the current top 10 whenever it is. But you do have to start with some baseline that certain teams are actually good until proven otherwise.

I do think the top 25 polls should fluctuate wildly the first few weeks of the season, but most voters won't drop a team unless they lose and then hesitate to plummet teams after one loss.
