Slow starts are going to be a problem if that doesn’t change soon
Needs fixed, but the key is not putting yourself in too big of a hole.
Nice to rattle off 24 unanswered points to end the game last night.
BU seemed to get their first 14 as ISU was losing a bunch of players to injury and looked like they were in scramble mode.
Wasn't great but just holding BU to a field goal on one drive is just very different in the 'slow start' deal.
Also worth mentioning is BU themselves came out very sharp and probably hang with all sorts of teams.
Yeah Baylor is always going to have good ball players due to their location and NIL $.
Aranda’s quote earlier this week was that ISU ‘chokes you to death’ - and we’ve seen this play out against Iowa, Houston and now Baylor.
Think it’s more a commentary on how tough we are to beat especially if we can get a consistent four quarters.
I honestly thought we looked pretty good out the gate last night. We were running it down their throat on that first drive, but had a couple things not go our way. Baylor db stayed with coverage on end zone throw 3rd and short. Close to busting it open early imo. Kept fighting through it and got over the hill though. Tougher for longer as Campbell says.
Heard all week that Baylor was so much better than Houston and a slow start would kill us. I think it’s more notable that we’ve given up a max of 7 points in any 2nd half this season. Other teams can play good defense for a quarter or half, but they aren’t disciplined enough to play a full game like that but our defense will be better in the 2nd half.
In a "normal" year, I'd agree that we're probably a little over rated.. but this year doesn't really have as many of the hyper-dominant teams that are clearly better than everyone else.
Georgia, Texas, OSU, and Bama (imo) are pretty clearly the best teams, but this year it seems like they aren't so far ahead of everyone else like a "normal" year. I think you've got Oregon, Miami, Penn State are in that next tier.
ISU could sniff a top ten if they continue to improve.

We were #8 in the AP and #6 CFP going into the B12 Championship against Oklahoma. Dropped to #12 (AP) and #10 (CFP) after the loss, then back up to #9 AP after the Fiesta Bowl. The CFP doesn't release a ranking after Bowls.

I don't think Iowa State is the 11th best team, but that's the case every year of teams being over ranked to start the year, or move up high in the rankings. Enjoy being undefeated and moving up in the rankings.
The rule changed about 10 years ago and I looked up the new language and now I’m curious if it changed again.
Back in 2016 the language changed to two division winners if the division was round robin played or if no divisions, the entire conference was round robin played.
Texas and OSU are the only teams that have not been in danger yet. Penn St was down to Bowling Green at half. Oregon struggled with Boise. Miami has had to be saved by the refs twice. The other 6 teams ahead of/tied with us have 1 loss already.
Of the undefeated teams behind us, Indiana has looked the most convincing, while BYU had close calls with SMU and Baylor, and Pitt squeaked by Cinci and WVU.
ISU is one of 12 Undefeated FBS Teams and ranked # 11 with a few 1 loss teams ahead of them and a few Undefeated teams ranked behind them. Seems totally appropriate to me. Might as well beat the Mountaineers this week and keep the nation scratching their heads and wondering how good these Cyclones truly are!

Maybe, but I’ll take it. We’ve watched the TOE be over rated for years so it’s OK to take our turn in the spotlight.
