Anyone going to Tulsa?

I have an email out to the University of Tulsa Athletics department asking questions about tailgating/parking as well as their tailgating rules. Hoping to hear back from them today and when I do I will share with CF.

It's surprising how little information they have on their website.

We'll be in a similar spot. Can't beat $30 for tickets on the 50 yard line behind ISU's bench.

We are close by as well. 45 yd line, row 1. I have heard they have an area near the entrance of the campus and stadium that will have various vendors and things set up for "tailgating." We are coming in around noon on Thursday and flying to Iowa on Friday am.

Our gameday is pretty lame, yes they have this deal called Hurricane Alley that is located around the entrance to the campus but its super f'n lame. You will mostly just find people sitting around or under canopies eating cheese and drinking wine or having a ******* contest about which craft beer is the best all while a crap rock band plays. For visiting fans I am not really even sure they have a parking lot you can tailgate in. I know if you show up early enough you will be able to find a place close to park on the street in a neighborhood. Your walk will probably be all of 300 yards to the stadium.

Thanks for the info.

I've heard good things about Billy Sims BBQ, have you tried it and what is your opinion ? I figured I would try it while down there.

Thanks for the info. So where do visitors usually go to enjoy some cold ones before the game?

I would not recommend Billy Simms BBQ, the best bbq in Tulsa is located right across the street from the stadium called Burnco but they are only open at lunch and usually run out of stuff by noon, Capps BBQ is also close to the campus and its solid bbq as well.

We don't usually get too many visiting fans to our games being in C-USA, I would say your best bet is to just grab a small cooler and walk around the campus. Also more then welcome to join our tailgate, we are located nearly 20 yards from the northeast corner of the stadium. Also you can enter and leave the game at any time, so we usually go out off and on during the game and rip beers.

Why the hell cant ISU start scheduling team that can live up to even half our game day atmosphere. Im tired of fans visiting ames getting to enjoy our awesomeness and then get nothing in return. This aint intermurals brotha

This is what the university of Tulsa told me about tailgating and parking.

"Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, was out of the office late last week and just now catching up to emails.
The majority of our parking lots on campus are donor lots. However, we do have some free space available on the North side of campus off of E. 5th Place by Allen Chapman Activity Center; and some parking on the west side of campus off of S. Delaware Ave. and E. 5th Street (in the USA West Apartment Complex). Please find attached map for your reference.

Best of luck and safe travels in to Tulsa."

We’re going to be there! My husband and I live in Tulsa right now and we have family driving down from Des Moines. We called the athletic department to ask about tailgating since we couldn’t find much information on their website. They told us that that most of the lots around the stadium are donor lots and it doesn’t sound like you can just pay to park there for a game. They guy we spoke with recommended the “Bama Pie lot†(a pie factory located just west of the stadium on 11[SUP]th[/SUP] street and Delaware). We checked it out this weekend and from what we can tell there are 2 Bama Pie lots (1 just west of the factory and 1 just south of the factory). Neither of the lots is very big and they have signs at the entrances stating that parking is for employees only. I’m a little nervous they will be full since it’s a work day. In general, parking is pretty limited in that area. If you’re just looking for a place to park for the game, you could probably find a spot in the residential areas around the school. There is a city park called Kendall-Whittier Park located near the track on S Columbia Ave and E 5[SUP]th [/SUP]Place South that I think we’re going to try to tailgate at.

If you’re looking for bars to go to before/after the game, we enjoy the Blue Dome District in the downtown area of Tulsa. A few of our favorites are McNellie’s Pub (lots of beer on tap and good pub food) and Arnie’s (very old dive bar, no food, lots of smoke, but pretty sweet). The Cherry Street area is also pretty fun – lots of bars and restaurants. If you enjoy live music, there’s a great band called Hosty Duo that is actually in town Thursday night (so after the game) at Blue Rose on Riverside Dr.

Hope this helps anyone coming down for the game! Go Cyclones!

I would say just come tailgate with us, I made this super awesome map showing where our spot is and where the best place to park is. We plan on getting out there at 2. We will probably be the only ones out there until about 5pm so it won't be hard to find us as we are the the only diehard tailgaters.

Thats very nice of you. Hope you know what your getting yourself into, Iowa State fans drink a lot before games! Hopefully you get as rowdy as we do for night games!!

You weren't kidding about no tailgating. Absolutely deserted out here. People don't even know there's a game tonight!
