Another New Waukee District

I know some cities have done this successfully, but have any actual suburbs (as in large suburbs - Ankeny, Waukee, West DSM type suburbs) done this successfully? If so, where? (I'd like to see it)

I love the idea of getting off a train and walking 2 blocks to a local restaurant (I've done this in Galesburg, IL), but seems more like random chance of geography than something you can "plan?"

Uptown Ankeny is super old but has been redeveloped recently centered around the new bike trail.

You're definitely right it seems like nice areas grow organically over along period of time.

People like The District in Ankeny, and while it has its benefits, it's closer to a mall than a "district". This video does a good job of explaining

Ice skate rink included, should be good to have.
I won't like the traffic in that area. We live a little over a mile away, should see property values increase again because of this.

That area between Waukee and Adel will eventually be filled in and become the largest city in Iowa. Just waiting for a few skyscrapers to go up soon.

West Des Moines Old Money finally breathes a sigh of relief as at least the rural migrant rubes won’t take over their Targets any more.
If we can get a Walmart in Waukee that would solve that problem with the rural Hok rubes. Acres of black and yellow parakeet shirts for sale.

Waukee population: booming
Waukee residents: WE DON'T WANT AMENITIES

A-FREAKING-MEN.

The more the merrier, please. I’m tired of seeing Waukeegans complain about the town’s growth on FB. “I moved here because it was like living in a small town close to the metro” — did you just wake up from a 10 year coma?

The one in Johnston across from Texas R is great. The one in Waukee is the worst I’ve been to.

I have heard that the Johnston and Jordan Creek Pancheros are privately owned, whereas all the other Pancheros in the Des Moines area are corporate owned. Makes a huge difference. I agree, I went to the Waukee location a few times after it opened and it only tasted like disappointment. One time my meal tasted like cigarettes.

Waukee desperately needs commercial buildings on their tax base. Their property taxes are high for the suburbs.

Those are my peeps!!! Went to Walmart in Johnston yesterday with the wife. I walked the whole store and she asked what I was doing. I told her I was making sure I was the most normal person in the store.
There is the utility of the self affirming Walmart visit. You walk around knowing you are there for a deal while everyone else is there because they have to be.

It's like going to IHOP in lieu of the gym.
