Ames Lager

Why do you say that? IMO bottles are worse than cans in almost every way.
Something about the taste and experience for me. I haven't had this problem with Ames Lager but I've had canned beers from other local brewers that were flat or expired upon opening. I've never had that issue with bottled beer.

We used to use glass bottles but switched to cans about six years ago. The cost is much greater for the glass, light is a huge enemy of beer and it also went against who we are as a brewery. Using glass at the beach or outside isn't the look for a brewery that promotes drinking outdoors. Now, don't get me wrong, when I want a Busch Latte, you better believe I prefer it in a bottle.

If I’m drinking out of the container it comes in I prefer a bottle over a can but always choose pouring it into a glass if that’s an option.

Bro I got to disagree … Busch Light needs to be in a can.

Look at what followed me home from the East Hy-Vee in Ames and climbed into my fridge

They had about 40 cases, make that 39.

Cyclone Liquors didn’t have it, but said they were expecting it later in the week.

It's been a journey! Thank you to the great Cyclones in NE Iowa for being patient with us and for the continuous hounding of beer buyers, y'all helped! Our beer will be hitting shelves later this month and early September.

I imagine these themed cans sell pretty well. It would be cool if they did a holiday themed can in the winter.

They look beautiful! Suddenly I'm thirsty...

Unfortunately, there were an awful lot of small breweries who got into canning that don't have the resources or knowledge to test cans for Total Packaged Oxygen or v/v of CO2 in finished cans. Many smaller places have to rely on straw fillers instead of counter-pressure fillers, too. You can get low dissolved oxygen and maintain proper carbonation with a straw filler, but it requires a little bit more knowledge and equipment to do so confidently and accurately.

Also, after years of growlers being so popular, there are enough consumers that used to flat, oxidized beer that I get why it can be hard to make a compelling case to invest in it.

Overall, cans are definitely the better vessel for their double seam, their light protection, the cost of shipping and increased portability...when done properly.

I overheard a few of the tappers in the Iowa Craft beer tent at the Iowa State Fair recommending Ames Lager to people asking for beer suggestions. I drank a few as well with my drink tickets. It's even better on tap of course!

Don't know the numbers or anything, but they sure made it sound like Ames Lager was killing it at the Fair.

As a former ICBT volunteer, Ames Lager is probably the best suggestion for those looking for something "that tastes like Bud" (which is a super common request). I'm not surprised it would be popular for those just looking for a good lager with no frills.
