Ames Lager

Cedar Valley Clones please share in here if you find it anywhere

No one confirmed that they are the same beer. The gentlemen on the radio kept saying that, but I didn't hear anyone from Backpocket confirm it. Clone Fest is a fest bier and Hawktoberfest is a marzen. Those are not the same thing, even if they're in the same family of beers.
Exactly not sure how he could get that so wrong!

My bad if that's not the case, but Jim the liquor king or whatever said "They are the same beer but different cans". I assumed a guy who runs a liquor store would know, but if you say they are different I'm fine with that.

Went to Johnston Hy-Vee and they didn’t have it. There were a few distributors there when I stopped by. When I asked the manager if they had any, they said no. One of the distributors responded “Is that the Iowa State sh*t?” I walked out a little upset after that. The Hy Vee employee said he’s had about 20+ inquiries about it but didn’t even give an update on if/when they would get any.

I wondered that too. In the past they were different beers, I think.

I was a little annoyed he said that. But maybe he didn't want to go into all the details and nuances of the styles. Bruno would probably have explained it well.

Johnston Hy-Vee sucks.

The guy at Johnston HyVee is not my fave. I've gotten attitude from him before too when we asked about Cody Road. "We don't have it and aren't interested in getting it if it's Cyclone."

Lol what a moron. I hate the Hawks but if I was running a liquor store I'd absolutely be stocking all the collective and university branded alcohol

Like MJ said there are slight differences. If it’s the same beer in different cans I don’t know why they would call them different styles.

“Classic Märzen should be a little darker, a little richer, a little heavier, and a little higher in alcohol than Festbier. Basically, Märzen is just a little “more.” The switch to the lighter Festbier occurred specifically to allow Oktoberfest attendees to drink more beer.”

They don’t even has the same ABV content.
I have not drank or even really looked into the Backpocket beers. In the future I will make sure I don't believe anything that Jim the Liquor King says again.

I think I read someone saw in Hy-Vee on Dodge Street in Dubuque. I would also bet Hy-Vee on Mt Vernon road in Cedar Rapids might have their hands on some by now...........other than that the options are slim for us easterners. Man, I hope Fareway strikes a deal soon.

Was told basically every Hy Vee in Cedar Rapids has it. Johnson Ave, Mt Vernon Rd, Edgewood Rd all confirmed to have Ames Lager.

Local Craft Cellar had Ames Lager on Wednesday but heard they sold out of their first shipment.

North Liberty Hy-Vee also has Ames Lager as well as Johncy's Liquor in North Liberty.

I'd be done shopping there.

Got attitude at a HyVee years ago from the cashier. Middle aged woman took an unprovoked shot at me for wearing an ISU shirt. Asked her when she graduated from Iowa. "Well my kid wrestles in hs so we really like Iowa" was the response. I just gave her a look and rolled my eyes. Wanted to go to the manager at the svc counter and say something, but just decided she wasn't worth the effort.

Anyone see it in Iowa City? None at the west side Fareway last night.

Going laugh the day he has no choice and his voice carries no weight with enough people asking for it. Then he has to come to work everyday and look at it.

They are definitely different but I could also see Backpocket making them basically the same. Take the CloneFest festbier recipe, increase the grains by about 20% and add a little bit of Cara something malt and package them differently.

Does the fact that I'm somehow offended that we are the lighter version mean I have a drinking problem?
