All time TJ team?

It’s probably negligible at this point if you take Rob’s best year, but if you take into consideration Blake has another year of development, it’s probably Buchanan. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Buchanan is definitely more skilled than Rob.
I agree, I just don’t agree with the assertion that Buchanan is clearly better than Rob in all aspects. Rob was a terrific defender that was essentially the QB of the defense. Blake got off to a great start early in the season but has slowed down pretty significantly and has had some struggles in Big 12 games. He’s going to have a great year next year and I think will surpass Rob, but he’s not clearly better than Rob yet.

You guys are way too high on BRE. Really improved but debatable if he was Big 12 material. Certainly wasn't 2 or the 3 years but we had nothing better. Buchanan and Ward over him.
If you are building a team how many 5's in TJ's era are better than BRE? If you pick Ward I bet you drive a Corvette, wear a banker shirt, and complain about the lack of sacks.

Keshon healthy or Brockington should start at the 2 over Toure. He might end up being better than both of them but right now he isn't as a freshman.

You should probably let JP know that TJ has no idea what he’s doing, since he started Rob over Ward.

Ward had the big blocks, but Rob was a far better defender doing what TJ wanted to do than either Ward or Buchanan. And crazy as it sounds, in Big 12 games Rob was the leading scorer between the 3.

24-25 Curtis Jones paired with 25-26 Milan is a serious f**king problem. Add any year Tamin and 25-26 Jefferson and it doesn’t matter who you put at the 5.

That said, BRE was the best perimeter defender of any 5 we’ve seen in an ISU uniform. His limitations offensively are obvious but I don’t think casual fans understand how good he was defensively on the pick and roll.

Had the NCAA gave CuJo another year...

BRE was highly flawed, but he was one of the most likable guys in an ISU uni ever. Yeah, I cringed every time he missed a bunny, and the FT line, good gawd. But dude gave 110% and for all his flaws, he was an excellent defensive player. All the love for BRE.

This years team.

The team this year doesn't have many weaknesses, but at least one of them would be shot creation from the guards outside of Tamin. Toure is a defense-creates-offense guy. Batemon (at this point in his career) and Heise are spot-up shooters. You'd definitely add CuJo or Brockington if you could.

The other significant one I can think of is a backup big man. Pleta has come on the past few weeks, but I doubt you'd take him over Big Rob or Ward at their best if you wanted to retain Buchanan. Heck, I'd probably take Chatfield back at this point. He had limitations, but he was a brawler on the boards.

TJ had just never had a true center as good as his best guards and forwards. And that's okay. Those guys are rare in the first place (and thus expensive). The system doesn't require much offense from the "5" but does require a lot of them on defense. And the staff has been good at finding those guys.

Hence why I'd say, as bizarre as it might sound, that I'd want Rob Jones out there starting on the all-TJ team. You don't need a big man with high usage when you've got CuJo, Momcilovic, Brockington, Lipsey, and Jefferson out there.

Another obvious weakness is ft percentage. Shooting under 70% is inexcusable and mentally weak. Dude. These guys are getting paid to do this. If they can't be bothered to make their free throws there's no excuse, plus the coaches are to blame for letting them get away with it.

The fact that BRE is included in some of these lineups and it isn’t insane is a testament to his development. His first year at ISU I thought he was one of the worst players we had ever put on the court.
That'd be because he was.

The development into a valuable system piece was nothing short of phenomenal.

I think some of you guys are underestimating how solid Jaren Holmes was his one year. I haven't seen his name mentioned once.
