All Things Notre Dame

Haven't watched them this season are they a spread offense or more traditional offense? So does the defense change it up and go four down linemen or stay with our 3? Would like to see McDonald line up as our 4th down lineman and wreck havoc on their QB!

sorry to offend the CF diehards, but has there ever been a bowl game with a bigger spread between the traditional strength of two football programs?

We're could potentially set a record for consecutive 8 win seasons playing our first ever bowl game in Florida against a team known for national championships, heisman trophies, NFL draft picks, etc.

Gotta love the bowl season....

LOL. Thanks. When I opened the thread, I was really looking more for key players, offensive tendencies, defensive alignments, etc. etc., but I was way off. I'll do my own research.

They have a roster chock full of 4-5 star talent. Most of that talent was the star of some catholic high school that was also loaded with superior talent at their level. No one is used to losing and they will fall apart as soon as the game doesnt go their way.

TLDR - they’re Texas with shiny helmets.

Notre Dame should not be considered for the CFP until they join a power 5 conference!

Agree, we haven't played blue bloods in bowls. But there are plenty of other examples- Boise vs. Oklahoma comes to mind.

My favorite excerpt: "How many other schools played 5 top 25 teams? I am not going to look that up, but my initial guess is zero."

That's some thorough research, by golly!

Without even having to check, A&M played five, too: Clemson, Florida, Auburn, Alabama and LSU. Compare that w/ ND's set-of-five (and USC was unranked when game was played).

ISU played 3 that were ranked at game time and remain ranked: OU, BU, Iowa. So it isn't like we faced a lower-tier AAC schedule or something.

His criteria was number that were ranked in the final College Football Rankings. Iowa State played 4 of the top 25 in that ranking: #4 OU, #7 Baylor, #16 Iowa and #25 Okie State. Yes, Iowa State lost all 4, but by a grand total of 11 points.

I get Quasimodo and Rudy confused in my head.
Ever time someone posts Quasimodo in this thread I think of that old ESPN commercial with Mike Golic at Walt Disney World where he meets the Quasimodo Disney character and he says something like "Notre Dame? I'm a golden domer myself." and starts singing the fight song or something. I couldn't find it in the interwebz though.

Never seen that one hahah, when was it? I'd have to imagine early-mid aughts.

This post over there pretty much sums up where they are at:

“I’m not hear to bad mouth the Cyclones or anybody for that matter. I like their coach and they had a decent year. With that said, if you are ND, how do you get up for this game ? I have no doubt Iowa St will be sky high for this matchup. I just don’t see the Irish getting excited about this game. Maybe I’m wrong. I don’t know. ND gains nothing from a win. It is essentially a meaningless bowl game against an unranked opponent. Heck, I could see ND losing this game too. Well either way the game will be played. I hope they win. I also hope they come out of this game injury free. I’m already looking forward to next season.”
'Up for' is an interesting take. First it sounds like a pre-prepared excuse. Second, it wreaks of athletes who do not understand what it takes at that level. I believe in 'the process'. I believe in 'always trying to get better'. If you're not 'up for' a game, then you shouldn't be playing at that level.

Notre Dame runs a spread offense with a lot of RPO. Ian Book gets a lot of ink, and his stats look good, but he craps the bed against good teams and pads stats against the cream puffs. The RBs are average, the receivers are good, especially Claypool (WR) and Kmet (TE). The OL has tons of talent but the OL coach is terrible and the group really underachieves.

ND doesn’t actually sign a lot of 5-stars. Using Rivals rankings, ND has one 5-star on the roster (Daelin Hayes) and he is out/redshirting due to injury. ND generally gets a lot of 4-stars and high 3-star recruits.
