One trend I noticed when I was dabbling in the gambling arena (prefer stocks because that's not just binary win/lose) but look at the first half lines. Especially if your looking at the dog don't bet them for the game, they often come out strong and then fade. I didn't bet it much because I didn't have the fancy apps or pay that much attention. Would have made your Tulane pick much less painful (I think, don't know who the dog was but still if you had them in 1H you would be good).
