ACL Reconstruction Surgery

only thing to worry about is when the anesthesiologist counts down and nothing happens just give the doc a shout your still awake.

How old are you? Age can be a ***** on recovery.

Love your post but I know a 70 year old woman who had knee surgery last year and did just fine, wbtway amazed me.

I guess she listened to her Dr and Phy Therapist and did what they said and it worked out just fine.

Good Luck on your surgery and god bless you for a full and complete recovery.

Lots of physical therapy love in this thread! I'm liking that!

Just listen to your surgeon and PT, they will lead you in the right direction. Different procedure have slightly different recovery protocols so they know best. Manage your pain well for the first few weeks, generally weight bearing is a good thing so do it as much as you can tolerate.

About 6 weeks in, you are going to feel really good and want to take on the world but in reality you are on the end of the bone healing cycle and need to still be conservative. Don't be surprised if your PT pulls the reigns pretty hard on you then.

ACLs are my favorite thing to work with, so feel free to come do your rehab in CB with me:smile:

Mine was done about 20 years ago, with a patellar tendon graft. They also cleaned up a little meniscus damage that had generated from my ACL rupture. I went 10 years without an ACL (which sucked), but in those days they just didn't do ACL repairs on mid-teenagers.

I was in grad school at the time at Kansas, and mine was done by the team orthopod for the Jayhawks football team. He recommended the same level of PT as he proscribed for the players, very aggressive. I recall him saying siomething like "you're a young guy - you can handle it." He also said that my days as a 'distance runner' were over (i used to do some half-triathalons and the running bugged me bigtime) and I should concentrate on swimming, biking, calisthenics and weights.

Do all your rehab to the letter and listen to the therapist. I was up playing light tennis over spring break, which was after about 12 weeks. I'm still going strong. If anything, it's my OTHER knee that bothers me more today.

my mom tore hers at age 45 and had a full recovery in 5 months. just have to do what the ohysical therapist says and hope for the best.

Thanks for all the help. This brace is going to suck to wear for 6 weeks so that'll be nice. Anyone else who has had surgery ever have problems with a numb arm afterwards? Yesterday when I woke up my arm was numb basically where the vein runs that they stuck me for my iv. Just curious if anyone ever had this problem.
