I would think ADs take home way more than a similar size CEOI wonder how the salaries of CEO’s of actual companies with similar size and budget of athletic departments compare to AD salaries.

Kinda agree, with you on Hoiberg and Chizik but I'm not sure about McD. I think it is all about the end results that matter in this instance. Both were homerun hires on paper. Hoiberg was the opposite, appeared to be a desperate attempt to make the fanbase have hope in ISU basketball again. All three were examples of how the opposite of expectations happened through their tenures.
In my mind, McD and Cheez Whiz never actually coached here.Kinda agree, with you on Hoiberg and Chizik but I'm not sure about McD. I think it is all about the end results that matter in this instance.
Baylor A.D. makes 1.5 million and still can't figure out how to get butts in seats despite ridiculous recent success in both major sports.
1 example, the company I work for pulled in $5.4 billion last year and our CEO's salary was just over $1 million. His total compensation was just shy of $10 million.Likely much lower salary, but higher overall comp package with stock options and performance incentives.
When you hear about some CEO making a gazillion dollars, typically it is because he increased the stock price and market value of the company by even more gazillions and was given shares.
