A current 1st rounder on roster?

Over the weekend ISU was noted as having the longest drought of any program without a 1st round pick. Looking at the current roster does anyone see a player that can break this streak? I can see a handful of young guys that might have the potential to do so. On offense I could see Allen Lazard (the best potential out anyone that I name) and Jake Campos. Campos has a chance to be the next KO for ISU. On the defensive side of the ball I could see Nigel Tribune (the least likely of the players I'll name) and Kamari Cotton-Moya. Tribune still has two years in the program left which is the shortest out of the players I named. The other three I think have real potential and time to develop. Lazard has the size, athletic ability, and hands to really get noticed. I really like Campos too. He has the size and plays the all too important LT position and has already proven to be able to handle guys with a few more years of experience than him (KSU DE). KCM is locked into his position until his four years are done.

Any thoughts? Please try to keep it positive, no need to crap all over guys who more talented than any of us that post on CF.

I am going to go with no. The talent just isnt there, Campos could but I dont think he will have a fast enough 40 time to do so.

Nope.

Campos, Lazard, Cotton-Moya all have the potential to get drafted, but I don't see them being first rounders.

Not sure the NFL cares a lot about 40 times of offensive linemen. What is his 40 time, since you seem to know?

Desmond Tucker? Or is he too small.

Honestly, a decent amount of NFL talent, probably not 1st round talent.

At this point lets just get multiple guys drafted, in a single draft, then get multiple guys drafted in back to back drafts, then we can start to worry about first rounders. Would rather have decent talent at a lot of positions than one great talent at this point. As it stands now no player on ISU roster is a top 5 guy at their position and if they are close to that they aren't a top 32 player in their class. We have a long way to go before we worry about getting someone drafted in the first round.

I really thought KO would. He didn't miss it by much, even if he landed in an excellent situation in Baltimore, won a Super Bowl as a rookie, and is part of one of the best guard combinations in the league and is going to get paid big soon, either with the Ravens or somebody else.

I would think Lazard of the current roster. He's got the frame for it. No offense to the Niang's of the world, but they look if you have the size and athleticism first before they decide if you're skilled or teachable enough.

If we use Lazard the way he is intended to be used, he can be. There were times last year he looked like an NFL WR.

You just gotta lob it up there, and it doesn't matter how many men are on him, he's catching it.

No. A lot of things need to change before ISU has a first round draft pick. The biggest factor right now is name recognition. ISU doesn't have the history of getting guys drafted so GM's are not going to take a chance on a guy from Iowa State. Hell, Blake Bell was drafted as a TE because he played at Oklahoma, not because he was the top TE in the Big12.

Also, how we recruit does not lead to guys getting drafted. We can't compete when it comes to recruiting guys with NFL measurables against teams in our conference so we have to recruit guys that may be a couple inches shorter, or guys just a step slower, that other teams don't make a priority. The NFL looks at these guys and think they are too short, or too slow, so we don't want them.

AJ Klein was a Big12 Defensive player of the year, but didn't run a fast enough 40 to get drafted in the first few rounds. Troy Davis was 2 time Heisman Trophy Finalist but wasn't tall enough or fast enough to get drafted in the first two rounds. They weren't drafted higher because they didn't have the measurements the NFL was looking for, even though they were great college players.

If thats the case then why do they run it? I dont know his specific time but I can tell you that KO was much faster and KO was already on the radar as a sophmore

We almost had Randy Gregory and he was rated as 1st round talent, only not going because he likes to have a smokey treat now and then. I'm going to count that as we had a 1st rounder.

Lazard needs to prove he's got the speed to go deep and he has to have some legit production in the next two years. He's got great height and size and great ability to grab jump balls, but he's got to be fast to go in the 1st.

Moya has no chance. No safeties were even taken in the 1st this year.

Campos it's way too early to pretend anyone knows he's good enough or even close. He's tall enough but not nearly strong enough right now. And I'd assume his technique will need to be almost flawless being a guy that's not going to overpower you.

Draft status is awesome and all, but I'd be happy with us winning a couple of Big 12 games this year, then worry about who gets drafted after that.

We are losing to FCS teams on a regular basis, we can't win a game in our own conference. Even if we have a kid or two with draft potential on the team, we don't have a supporting cast good enough to let them showcase some of their talents.

Those FCS teams also had more people drafted than we did.
