*** 2026 NFL Draft Thread ***

If it would have pushed him into the 1st round...he would have had to wait 2 years longer than he has because 1st rounders can be given 5 year deals that are controlled by the organization. Breece is one of those that actually benefited from being a 2nd rounder. He earned what he is getting (hope he doesn't get tagged as they have threatened)!
Very true, 5 years instead of 4 for first rounders, The Jets will tag him, they have the space and need someone to run the ball. KC really messed up not agreeing to the 3rd round pick the Jets wanted for Hall, they could have then resigned him and used the draft to rebuild the defensive and find a WR and TE.
The 3rd round pick you would have lost would most likely not be worth what Hall would have brought to the team.

Never thought about it, but what Veach is saying is true, but is it a good thing? Look at the Oregon QB, he decided to go back to school and take the NIL money and the come out next year. Many are praising his decision, but the guy was reported to be in the top three picks in what most agree is not a good QB draft this year. Next years QB draft pool will be better most think, so did we really help himself, delaying getting a 2nd contract a year longer and not move up the draft board, but may drop.
It's great for the colleges to keep these kids, but just how good is it for the top rated kids? Breece Hall would have been great for ISU to play his senior year, but how much would it have helped him in the NFL, would it have moved him into the first round, no one will ever know, heck he could have blown out his knee and pushed out him of the 2nd round.

Oregon QB was simply afraid to go to the Jets and get ruined for 4 years!! Now the Jets don't have a good QB option other than taking a free agent or trading.

Maybe but unless they take one this draft, the Jets may still where the kid ends up, just a year later.

Except that will be a larger pool of QB's next year. Good chance he goes elsewhere
But a team taking a QB is most likely not going to be real good, so he goes from the Jets to some other horrible team. Your pay is based on your draft slot, so dropping is going to cost him money. Now can he make that up on the 2nd contract, sure but only if he is good enough to get a 2nd contract and it does make him a year older.

As a Chiefs fan I so hope this is the guy they draft. Need a guy that has the speed to break a run off the edge and also be a threat out of the backfield in the passing game. I'd love nothing more than seeing Breece Hall in a Chiefs uniform but sounds like the Jets may franchise or transition tag him and even if they don't I don't see the Chiefs willing to spend the money it would take to sign him when they have several spots on the roster to address with an already tight cap situation.

I agree, most drafts predictions have Love either going #8 to New Orleans or #9 to the Chiefs. I saw one draft expert say that he has heard many teams are saying they hope that Love does not end up in KC as he would be a difference maker in their offense. If NO takes him, depending on what happens before it, they could either take a WR, which they may look at if Love is gone with the Rice situation, or go after Bain out of Miami if he is still there, but teams are afraid of his short arms, which they think could be a problem. He has the shortest arms of anyone tested that is projected to go high in the draft in years.
Jets will tag Hall, I would be shocked it they let him walk.

The Saints have a lot more holes to fill that I'd be surprised if they go RB with their pick. The Chiefs are in a unique spot because they are more of a reload vs rebuild with their roster so if Love is not there if Lemon or Styles were somehow there it would still be a good pick for them. Veach has also shown he is not scared to make a trade to move up or down to get the guy he wants so if Love is they guy he wants and he thinks he won't be there at 9 I could see him working a deal to make sure he can draft him.

I hope you are correct, NO needs a lot of help, but with what could be a generational running back, I could see them taking Love. I really can't see a team other than New Orleans taking a RB before that point nor see one trading up to take him except KC.

It’s true in the first couple years of guys staying longer, but it’s not going to be a perpetual thing, unless the fact that guys are a year or two older significantly knocks their grade down, which I don’t think is the case in the NFL. After these first couple years of NIL keeping guys in school that would’ve left for the NFL, the same number of quality guys are coming out each year. The new steady state will be a trade off of age for more developed players.

As somebody who is not a Chiefs fan, I hope they don't draft Love. Dude is a freak. Having him line up next to Holmes would be scary as @@@@.

It's just another option for the kids that are projects and tweeners to make money and try and improve their draft stock. Look at the two offensive lineman for EIU. Both stayed, got some NIL and moved up their selection in the draft. Before they could have stayed, and got nothing but another another year of school, but now by staying, they are not being penalized because they are getting paid while playing. Before players were leaving to get paid, now they can stay and make as much money as going into the draft, unless you are in the top 15 picks or so.
