MLB: ***2026 MLB Season Thread***

What are the Giants trying to do...or trying not to do? They were a model franchise for quite some time...then nothing...always finishing runner-up (by design??) for big name free agents. The NL West is a tough division but SFG has money and they have fans...they need to figure some things out soon...

Sounds like some free agents have some concerns about living there and then obviously California state taxes don't help either.

CA taxes don't seem to bother Dodger/Padres players much...but SF is an expensive urban area for sure! That said...just overpay like the Dodgers do (although they don't have to overpay THAT much)!

The Dodgers used to be my 2nd or 3rd favorite team...but this is getting disgusting! I wanted the Padres to land this guy so they could maybe beat the Dodgers...ugh...
If Dodgers get Sasaki their starting pitching will go from very thin last year (yet still won it all) to ridiculously deep and good this year.

Are the Dodgers the new Yankees? It seems like they are hoarding loads of talent.
Yeah pretty much. Their TV deal is ridiculous. They got the deal before RSN's started to go under. Also to their credit they are willing to spend whatever it takes and pay the taxes, have good scouting and talent development, and also make smart business decisions. Hell if they get Sasaki they will pretty much own the Asian market in terms of fans. Will make a boatload of cash from over there.

Dodgers situation is just annoying. They locked in and INSANE television contract that would never happen today back starting int 2014. 25 years for $8.35 billion. That’s $334 mil a year and at least double any other team. They also have over $1 billion in deferred payments to players under contract to game the current CBA. Built in cheat code of being the favored location in LA for Japanese players coming over.

So they have more cash than any other team and more future debt than any other team, in arguably the most attractive market. So many advantages and they are making full use of it.
