MLB: ***2026 MLB Season Thread***

Looking more at the Soto deal. That opt out in five years is the biggy. If the Mets aren't doing well, Soto can opt out in his prime at age 31 to try and latch on to a better team. However the Mets can void that opt out but buying him back at a big bump. Interesting option and if he is still the same level player I bet he does that option.

The Mets' offer? It's actually an $805 million deal. Soto can opt out of the contract after five years, and Steve Cohen can void it by increasing the average annual value from $51 million to $55 million, which is where the escalators come in. - MLB - Yanks Go Yard

Nationals won the Draft Lottery. Mariners & Cardinals made good size jumps up.

Was not expecting that. Dude will be 39 in that 8th year. Yankees now have Cole, Rodon, Fried, Schmidt, Gil, Cortez and Stroman as starters. Guessing Stroman and Cortez are on the block. For sure Cortez as a lefty is gone with Rodon and Fried in the rotation. Thing is they won't get more than a bag of baseballs for either Stroman or Cortez. I'll be pissed if they move Schmidt to the pen and keep Stroman and Cortez.

It's confirmed that Cardinals are shopping Arenado. I guess they're not all that sincere about winning next season.
Don’t think they ever really were. Mozeilak can say they want to be competitive all they want but this “reset” means getting the kids playing time. Arenado isn’t doing anything for the cardinals next year. Let him go try to win one last time.

He deserves to be on a winning team.

And at this point in his career he can’t be THE guy on a team. He needs to be the 5th or 6th guy.
I think he's still the premier 3rd baseman. He had a down year (for him), but I suspect he'll rebound in good measure.

Yanks did well to get lefty Bellinger in the Cub's salary dump. Obviously might like hitting in NY as a lefty around Judge and Stanton and gives them some outfield and 1st base options since they don't really have anyone at 1st right now. Just about a perfect fit and they didn't have to give up some of the players that the Cubs were rumored to want in return.

Will be interesting to see if a Goldschmidt has anything left in the tank at 37. Change of leagues and scenery plus hitting in a better lineup might help him. Worst case, he is a real 1st baseman and could platoon with lefty rookie Ben Rice and that makes him a better gamble than keeping lefty Rizzo for his option year.

He's an excellent fielder and base runner--and he has power.
