2026 crop year

not a lot of heat coming SW-IA

I'm trying to get a better handle on some numbers and their exact GDUs for different physiological stages.

Here is a counter on a trial of 12 hybrids 107-115 RM...

Have all but the last 80 of soybeans planted. I think we're going to just miss on having everything planted in April, my guess is we finish Friday

Corn planted the evening of 4/15 just starting to spike today. Now of course have to worry a bit about frost later this week.

I joked with my seed dealer that they need to implant a gene for viagra after last years green snap wind event.

We have Tassels and Silk showing on our early planted Pioneer. The Golden Acres is looking much better but hasn’t tasseled yet. If it keeps raining it should beat the Pioneer by 20 bushels or more

I drive a Wrangler, and knowing nothing about cow aerodynamics, I agree with these test results. Windy trips from Chicago area to Ames, I feel like I know what it must have been like to land the space shuttles.

That "orange" windshield is great at collecting rocks... On my 3rd windshield in just under 6 years.

Last night was definitely a time where the "early"(April 15th) planting an unseasonable warmth was a drawback. Emerged corn and 28 degrees isn't an ideal combo. Will have a better idea what things look like tomorrow but based on an initial scout this evening I think we escaped the worst of it. Mostly frost free at 7 am which may have helped?

Beans half done. Will finish working ground today. Finish beans Tuesday.
Auto steer is nice so I can do other stuff.
North of 9 is a mixture of some about some and some just getting going (like me). Those who put corn in up here, I can show you their tire tracks from when they worked ground. That’s why I held off, was still kinda wet.

This sun right now is blinding.

Basically got done with beans today. A couple isolation patches to do for seed corn. Seed corn probably won’t go in for 10 days or so
