Saw Jane's Addiction with Love and Rockets last night. Both were awesome! But Jane's was just outstanding! Perry Farrel is old as dirt now and kind of looks like the creepy old guy from Poltergeist but he sounds exactly the same. Phenomenal concert!
Going to see Journey/Def Leppard tonight at Target field. Should be good!
At the Smashing Pumpkins show. Whoever this opening act from Canada is, it’s basically 7 dudes in wife beaters that look like they’ve been smoking in the garage since high school 20 years ago and play music in random bars in the evenings. Country rock is the best I could describe it as. Wood guitars, harmonica, keyboard, etc.
Hella different from my typical concerts. 2 nights ago I was in the same seat listening to Avatar (metal), In This Moment, and Ice Nine Kills (both hard hard rock rock). Basically CF surfing waiting for the Smashing Pumpkins stuff from 1990-2005 ish).

The opening band....many of them were barefoot, LOL.
Very cool to see Billy hang around after and chat it up some.
That was a great show! Corgan and Iha’s guitar work together is magical.
Corgan absolutely shreds.
I didn't expect Iha to sing Cream's Sunshine of Your Love. Badass.
Yeah that was unexpected but great. It’s a great song to just play with and make your own as a guitar player. We used to get lost in 40 minute jams on that song at practice. When the singer wasn’t there. Obviously.
I thought the Eruption part was awesome but then was like "why is James singing GNR?"
He was just having fun with it.
Yeah they loosened up as the show went on and jammed a bit. Much shorter than the last time I saw them in Seattle but they still sound great.
Had to look up the set list because I didn’t recognize one of their first few songs, it was a cover of Zoo Station-U2.
Holy ****, what a show last night. Corgan and Iha absolutely shred and we got to witness one of the best drummers on the planet.
Not a fan of the opener and my wife hated some of their lyrics but overall everything was A+.
Everything was perfect, amazing sound, amazing venue, amazing setlist. Il not sure if anyone else noticed but we also got a U2 cover and they actually played Mayonnaise which is their best song imo.
Overall an A+, I had been waiting to see them since I was jamming on the Siamese Dream cassette tape I had when I was 14 and they didn't disappoint.

One thing I thought was weird, we had to pour our factory sealed water bottles into a plastic cup at checkin per artist request and beer had to be poured into plastic cups instead of drinking from the can. Not sure why but seems like a lot of wasted plastic.

Smashing Pumpkins:
Amazing show. I've been to what has to be hundreds of concerts over the years that cover all my favorite bands young and new - and some being the biggest names in rock history. I saw Korn last year and 2x in the coming months as my all time favorite band. But listening to them in concert (while they're amazing) is what you expect. For some reason, and I can't really explain it, there was something unique last night hearing songs like Bullet with Butterfly Wings, Ava Adore, 1979, Today, Tonight, Tonight, etc that just felt totally unique and special.
Being born in '82, I grew up in the 90s and that's where my roots in hard rock started (after the grunge rock phase). For some reason I always put Smashing Pumpkins on some sort of pedestal because of how unique, melodic, and special some of their big hits were. They were like Bush, Metallica, and U2 on this whole nother level at the time. Even though I haven't listened to them in probably 10-15 years outside of occasionally playing Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness or their greatest hits playlist, those special vibes came rushing back. It felt like watching all time legends sing those songs that you had always placed in some unique category of special.
Anyways, great energy that got better as it progressed. The crowd could not have been more packed. I've been to 8 shows at the Vibrant Music Hall and sitting in the ADA seats you get a sense of how packed the crowd around you is. It was shoulder to shoulder, crotch to butt in every inch of the building and I didn't see an empty seat in the upper deck. I couldn't even get to the bathroom because the crowd had nowhere to shift to. It was intense.
I can't imagine they played any differently last night than they did at their peak. They aren't the huge showboat, jump all over type of show, but they also aren't glued in place. Just the right mix for the aura of music they play.

I don’t know about the water but Vibrant has always poured the beer cans into plastic cups when I’ve been there. Probably a venue thing rather than artist.
