2025 Transfer Options

Just looking

If we're going that route as opposed to adding another guard, I think I'd rather have another high energy 6-9ish guy with good athleticism and just enough beef to play the 5 when needed. Gives us a lot more flexibility, especially on defense with switching.
Like some of what you are saying but there is much to be said for a rim protector. Out defense is predicated on pressure on the guard. This will inevitably lead to so guards driving the basket. Drawing a charge works once in a while but the threat of a blocked shot causes more misses than anything else. Not all shot blockers are 6'11 and up so let's try to get a mobile, athletic, shot changer.

Is Bennett Stirtz the best returning PG in the nation. I watched him playing against UNI and I wasn’t terribly impressed. He is good but is he really the best PG in the nation next year?
I was impressed every time I watched him play. Reminds me of Hornacek.
Best returning PG? I don't know, but he will do well.

What is our plan now that we lost Rhode? We need a guard who can get a bucket like Cujo and Keshon. If the roster stays as is, we are a bubble team. Sad. Would love the Princeton Kid but he'll demand too much money.
I’ll preface by saying we can’t replace CuJo and/or “healthy” Keshon. With or without Rohde. That said, if nothing else changes, roster wise, Williams and Batemon slide into the CuJo role and Toure the Keshon role. I do not expect Toure to be “healthy” Keshon, but given the opportunity to play right away may lead to something similar later in the season, and I’m willing to bet he is a better option than “not playing at all” Keshon.

Look…I liked Rohde simply because he’s 6’6”, has shown he can run the point in a pinch (I don’t think he wants to do that though) and shot 41% from 3. All great attributes. I’m just not sure he gives you ball pressure defense like “healthy” Keshon or even CuJo could.

I know the landscape has changed and freshman playing right away doesn’t happen often, but I think it’s possible Batemon and Toure can. Just my two cents.

Pretty good…. Hardly the best. He’s a D2 guy that ended up with the suckeyes

I’m not sure if this a legit new account (welcome!) or a troll (go away!), but, just to set the record straight: Tamin, Heise, Milan, Jefferson. If two of these four suffer season-ending injuries, ISU will probably be a bubble team. Freaking Nebraska missed the Big 10 tournament this year and was a bubble team.

Agree. We have a top 15-20 roster now. Get a backup PG that can do 8-10ppg and limit turnovers, we can be a top 10 team in 2025

Not even close. When Murray State came to Des Moines coach Prohm put a 6'7" forward on him and he really struggled. Murray State beat Drake that game.

He will be facing more of those type of athlete's every game in the big ten.

This is a generalization. Just because he started his career at the D2 level has nothing to do with the player he is now. In my opinion, Stirtz is legit. He might be so in terms of McCollum’s system, but legit none the less. He runs that offense to perfection, rebounds and is decent defender as well. I actually think he and Lipsey are very similar in a lot of ways.

Stirtz is legit. Wish we could have got him to be honest. However, I am starting to question how good the recruiting is at Iowa. So far they have just got Drake Transfers and while Stirtz is a legit big 10 player, I am not sure the rest of those guys are good enough to make the big 10 nervous about Iowa. Sure they beat Missouri but that is the tournament and not a long grinding year and Missouri had some serious flaws.

Agree with all of this. Except Lipsey is a better defender. Stirtz is a better shooter and is 6'4.

Completely agree with this. If I was an Iowa fan, I’d first beat my own ass, but immediately after that I’d probably be a little concerned. At least initially.

My whole question with McCollum was “will he be able to recruit at the D1 level?” I don’t question his ability to coach. He is a really good coach. I’d just be really surprised if these Drake transfer stack up against the upper crust of the Big10.
