And still just a true freshman age wise. I’m excited to see what he becomes at age 20 or 21, after he’s been battling guys like Jones, Jackson etc for years in practice and has a few years of college S&C

I’m betting he’s a quality Big 12 big as a redshirt sophomore and even better as an upperclassman. The biggest issue is whether we believe in giving development minutes to guys. There are equally good programs where he can get decent PT in blowout buy games, and spot minutes on other games
We'd be happy to keep him warm for a year or two in Cedar Falls. Let him play a bunch and then he can slide back in down there in a couple years.

It’s true. And doesn’t feel right. Do we pay UNI basketball so they can lure him, at least until we have these guys under 4 year contracts and then you pay us while they’re on loan?

Practicing against our rotation is good, but playing in the MVC would be better for development. A lot of quality upperclassmen bigs have been produced by that program

But I’m not sure we could afford him had he left and played a couple seasons at UNI. If he ended up being a 7’0” that showed range beyond the arc and put up 12 and 8 in the MVC as sophomore…that would get a ton of money in the portal

And that’s why the staff wanted Rock so badly out of high school.

It’ll be interesting to see if having him enroll a year early will pay off. Being a true freshman right now would give him another year to develop physically before his eligibility expires. I mean, now you could argue he should be at a juco playing, the transfer to UNI, then to Iowa St

Fran is still actively recruiting. Contrary to what some people believe, he isn't leaving Iowa this year.

Could be

Although with NIL and portal, it’s much more transactional now. It does not take that much to tell a guy you’ll allocate him a bunch of the revenue share and get a ton of PT near home.

It could just mean he plans on coaching somewhere next year, Iowa or otherwise, and is building connections with guys

I'm guessing with their Big Ten money, and revenue sharing starting this summer, they're able to offer some real $$ to players now.

He just committed to Iowa.
Wow! Fran was actually 2nd place... always just thought that idea was a EIU fans coping mechanism. Granted it took choice #1 got disqualified due to coaching change to test the theory. If that could only happen to every Fran recruit to prove the theory.

Oh it would be hilarious if this guy got offered a bunch of money by Iowa. Also he has a lot of competition at his position so guaranteed PT will probably be hard to come by.

It also seems highly unlikely Fran is going to walk away from his current deal in place and take less money elsewhere, probably at a mid-major, and who wants to hire a 66 year old head coach who hasn't had much career success?

I have never asked, nor paid attention enough, can a University take any dollars from sports revenue to pay NIL?
