Only thing I see good about Rock is we can’t keep him for cheap and develope him to be serviceable like Chatfield. Play him as a 7th or 8th man to give whomever our starting center is at that point. He is definitely not the player we thought we were getting… yet
The thing you have to remember about Rock was his fr. season was supposed to be his h.s. year. If you look at his body this past season versus the last year he added a lot of good weight. Is he finally ready for 10-15 minutes next year and starting his last 2 years? I think its very possible.

He did have an offer from Kansas and Purdue which are two schools that usually know something about big men. That being said the coaching staff knows his work ethic and the level of improvement he has had up to now and probably has a pretty good handle on it.

It will be even better when there are multiple year contracts and trades (with players having no-trade clause)

Unless collegiate sports split away from the NCAA I don't see a world where trades would be possible. These kids still have to be enrolled at a University and it's not like they can just pack up and head across the country in the middle of a season without completely messing up their schoolwork let alone the complications with moving their life off the court/field abruptly too. I just don't see trades of collegiate athletes something that makes a lot of sense right now. You think it's already complicated with NIL, imagine asking a kid to pack up and grab the next flight to a school they had never visited before and start over. Most of them enter the portal early enough where they can finish their current semester and be able to enroll at another university the following semester which is why the FB portal opens when it does so those guys have enough time to enroll for the spring semester. The academic piece is something that probably can't be worked around if you think in-season trades would be possible.

I do think making NIL deals multiple years contracts makes a lot of sense and would cut down on some of the portal chaos. College athletics is essentially turning into semi-pro sports now so just like coaches that can leave many of them have buyout terms on their contracts so can see where if a school wanted to try and poach someone away that has a 2 year deal they would owe that school or NIL collective whatever amount is in the contract or if a kid wanted to terminated his deal he would have some kind of buyout or forfeit some of the compensation he agreed to.

Makes my head hurt just thinking how much more complicated the portal and NIL world could potentially become.

Correct - I think all are expected to be back, with the normal caveat that who can tell anything in NIL season. Dishon is the only one up in the air at all, from what I've seen
I won’t be confident until the portal closes. These guys may all plan to be back now, but I wouldn’t blame them for thinking twice if a school pulls out a fat wad of cash.

My opinion, I feel we may have 4-5 scholarship spots to fill. TJ has also seemed to leave open a spot for mid-season transfer a few times. I'll set the number at 3.5
I am under the assumption we'll probably have some bench guys that did not see much time enter the portal. It happens every year and it's common at most schools so can't be upset when it envitably will happen at ISU too. The key will be not having any surprises from the core rotation leave too.

I think we definitely need to find another big man to replace the loss of Chatfield and a proven guard that can be an alpha scorer to replace the big hole Jones and Gilbert will leave. Hopefully 1 or more of our freshmen can hit the ground running and help fill 1 of those voids too but would feel a lot better if we have a proven guy fill 1 of those spots.
