WAC Player of the Year.

I realize, yes, it's "only WAC," but it's something. His shooting percentages don't jump off the page, but 14 ppg and to get POY you must be doing something right.
Yeah, the stats don't necessarily make you think conference player of the year, so he must have some abilities that don't show up in the stat sheet.

Back in the transfer game.

This guy is a proven bucket getter that knows his limitations. Doesn't shoot the 3 at a high percentage but doesn't shoot a lot of them. Gets his points by beating people off the dribble and getting to the ft line. His last year in JUCO avg 20pt/game in 18min. A crazy number

Feel like this is more an indicator of the NIL market. A rising tide floats all boats. There's enough money out there between the House Settlement and NIL Collectives that schools are willing to pay $1M for average post players (Jackson) and young potential (Nojus).

Will follow both guys to see their production next season. In Nojus' situation, his leaving ISU could be an indictment of the current system where there is no time to develop players at the elite P5 level in hoops. Need to re-load vs. re-build. Just the reality.

And Pitt's a program in a position to take chances to re-build to re-load down the line.
Jackson wasn’t all world, but he was better than average.

It’ll be like the NBA in which there is a huge salary range.

If there’s an actual cap, salary pool optimization is going to really favor the coaching staffs that know when to pay, and when not to

For example, I like Nojus, but there’s no way I’d pay too much more than what you could get similarly via a freshman. And Jackson is probably a guy we’d return before salaries, albeit still looking to augment him with a better defensive center like Buchanan. But it was clear he could get more in free agency than it would make sense for us to pay a 20 min/gm role player
Still a starter

True. It probably doesn't hurt UVU won the regular season title, high-impact guys on good teams tend to get more accolades. That sounds like a backhanded compliment, but main point is his productivity had value within team concept, I'd guess.

Regardless of who else we add I think this has been a successful portal season. We were able to keep our top four players with remaining eligibility, all of which started for ISU in the tournament. I was sad to see Jackson go, but I think Buchanan is a good addition up front. Then you look at the recruiting class coming in, I'm optimistic about the future of Cyclone basketball. I know it's difficult to put expectations on freshmen, but Batemon, Toure, and Pleta look like they could contribute next year.

Not really. Our peers are other Big12 teams and I wouldn't put him in the top 5/6 of Big12 centers and there are a few back-up Big12 centers I would have taken over Jackson. So if he's a middle of pack Big12 center- that pretty much means he's average.

Dishon was a slightly above average offensive player and below average on defense, especially for the defense Iowa State plays.

Don't get me wrong- between Jackson & Chatfield we had a solid post tandem. One better on offense (Jackson) and the other better on defense. Jackson a better defensive rebounder and Chatfield better on offensive.

Legitimate question for Blum, anyone in the know, or anyone else who has an opinion:

If ISU or other schools don't have the $$ to fill all 13 roster spots, are there still end-of-the-bench players who would come here for a full-ride scholarship (nothing to sneeze at) and, say, $10,000 in walking around money from NIL.

The value for us would be a) better practices and b) a 12th man on the bench in case multiple players are injured.

I realize the market is gonzo and players are expecting serious cash. But let's say the 6th man* at a DII school is looking for a new home. The upside for him is a) scholarship, b) a little spending money, and c) be a part of a Top 25 team (cool!).

* I don't have anyone in mind, I'm honestly curious.

Short answer is yes. I do feel we will add 1 more combo guard. Hopefully it's someone that is expected to contribute

Blum said on the Sunday podcast they are looking to add another guard but will likely wait till the prices drop a bit.
