Way-way back in HS, I was a split end.

We were run-heavy, especially senior year when we used wishbone. We passed maybe 1.25 times per game.

My main role on offense, rotating with our other SE: Coach told me the play, sprinted to the huddle, using my impeccable memory to relay the exact formation/play to QB four seconds later. QB then told the rest of the team the play. Ready, break!

During the play, block whenever necessary, run a pass pattern occasionally as "deception," and don't do anything dumb, like jump offside.

I was once a wing back with this same job.

It seems simple but at that age and situation you're thinking of so many things and I'd spend half the time running out there trying to remember if my coach 'I' or 'Pro' and did he say 'lead' or just '26'?
