2025 NFL Draft

I mean…ok. Perhaps there wasn’t hype right when he signed (as an 88 on 247, btw) and perhaps my use of hype is inaccurate based on whatever dictionary and set of parameters you are using. And I’m sure if we look at every story with revisionist glasses we can discount a lot of them. All that said, there was a lot of excitement about him before and early in his career and he struggled to meet a lot of fans expectations, primarily due drops. He’s come a long ways and it’s clear the not-technically-hype-hype was accurate based on what he had the ability to become and turned himself into.
I don’t really remember that. He seemed like a pretty typical trajectory for a 3 star to NFL guy. I thought he looked great vs Clemson as a Fr. He just didn’t explode in year two but had a steady improvement each year.

I jumped on the hype train after the Clemson game.

Listened to Fantasy Focus (Matthew Berry) from last week. They did a mock rookie draft for dynasty league formats and they had Higgins going 14 and Noel going 17. Obviously this is skill positions only as it is for fantasy, but everyone in this range was thought to be a contributor on team next year.

What hype?

He was an anonymous low three star recruit. He had a nice freshman season. He built himself from there.
The JN early-on hype was pretty endless.
He was dissapointing, given the CF hype.
All that matters? Given time to evolve, he did.

Perfect example of CMC/staff "player development."

Ps. Simple stuff. Check his stats.
Freshman-senior. Duh....

The kid has talent, but it's going to be difficult for him with his running style at the next level. Everyone in the NFL is just bigger and faster, meaning the hits are going to be more vicious. You have to wonder just how long he will last in the league running like he does.
I definitely believe his nfl career is 5 years max. You just don’t make a living trucking NFL players.

The Lions list Montgomery at 5-11, 224, so roughly the same size as the kid from ASU. I have no clue about either speed.
I think Montgomery is a lot shiftier than Skattebo. I never saw Skattebo juke guys like he did. Not sure on top end speed, I'm guessing there's not a whole lot of difference there. Montgomery might be slightly faster, but probably not much.

Monty was and is good at giving defenders bad contact at the tackle point. He was shifty enough to turn a shoulder tackle into an arm tackle, then force his way through with great balance.

Skattebo reminds me of Peyton Hillis. A bulldozer back that is going to wear down quickly due to a lot of hard collisions.

David Montgomery is a hell of a running back and somehow an even better person. We love him more than any fanbase and he’s underrated even by us. We’re lucky we still get to enjoy watching him play. He reminds me of 80s backs in his toughness and humility.

I am already concerned about Skat's brain.
Granted, I've only seen him play maybe 5ish games but he seems "twitchy."
Reminds me of Chris Johnson.

Maybe it's just a habit but it makes me question it.

Maybe teams are finally, actually learning that burning ludicrous amounts of draft capital to move up a bit in the first round is a massive gamble that rarely pays off?
Teams that got burnt moving up where teams like the 49ers and Bears that mortgaged their future and then chose the wrong player that struggled in the league. Moving up to get a Mahomes, Allen or Burrows is well worth it, those guys are worth giving up a first round pick the next year or two, but when you end up with the players the Bears and 49ers did, they chose a poor player and hurt their future at the same time.
