So UT, ISU, USC, MS. & ND are considered the 5 most overrated teams that will make the tournament. I can see why they would conclude that. I also doubt that any team in the Big 12 will even come close to a final four. TCU might make it to elite 8 if scheduling favors them. WV might surprise us but I doubt it. I don't really have much confidence in CO, TT, BU, or OSU getting past the second round. Even though UConn is highly favored to take it again it will not surprise me if they don't get upset in one of the last two games. Would I bet on it? Lord no. Sort a odd miss to me. She kept using "overrated" when "disappointing" is more accurate based on how they were ranked earlier and the expectations for them which was her whole premise. Tennessee is maybe overrated by Creme (even in his update yesterday), seems he is just going off of NET. The others, included the Cyclones, are probably rated about where they should be right now based on how they have played in league. So, disappointing but not overrated.
I think "disappointed" would describe the feeling of far more than six teams this year. I think she just hit on the top 6 that had much higher expectations this year and they all had good reasons for those expectations.
I just watched the first NCAA WBB championship (1982) between LA Tech and Cheney which was coached by Vivian Stringer. Tech had Dennis Rodmans sister and Kim Mulkey at point. They were good but it seemed that everyone thought Cheney would take it. There were some very "disappointed" Cheney fans there that day. The next year LA Tech would return to play Southern Cal and Tech left very "disappointed". So Cal had Cynthia Cooper and that's about all that needs to be said. What a player she was. When Cooper and Sheryl Swoopes got paired up on the Houston Comets no one else had a chance. 4 championships in a row.

Bill gave an injury update as reported by the Register -- Paulk has done some limited practice but likely won't play in the conference tournament. Taulelei tweaked her hamstring and might be limited. Everyone else is healthy enough to play.
You come completely out of left field with some of the most interesting posts! I was a freshman at Iowa State in 1981. The best HS girls basketball player in Iowa circa 1980 was Lorri Bauman of Des Moines East, who stayed home after graduation and starred at Drake, then the best woman's program in the state. I met Lorri Bauman in passing at the Iowa State Fair the Summer of 1981 - she stood out on the Midway at 6'3 and was a central-Iowa celebrity (from winning a state title at East). Drake was in that 1982 tournament and I believe Lorri Bauman still holds the single game scoring record!
It's interesting how we remember those key figures from back in the day. The two that I always remember are (a) Deb Coates of Mediapolis who scored 5100 points in her four years of six on six. I remember watching her take home the state title in '73 as a sophomore. The other is Machine Gun Molly or Molly Bolin. She played in our conference for Moravia, went to college at Grand View and then was in the first women's pro league the WBL. She averaged 58 points per game her senior year. Averaged 25 at Grand View (a big shift to 5 on 5). In the WBL she was still prolific. In 79-80 she averaged 33 points per game and had a single game record 55. It also didn't hurt that she was pinup material. Her career closed playing on an all star team that helped get the olympic team ready to win gold.
I grew up in small-town central Iowa and my father worked in Des Moines. We subscribed to the Tribune and the Register when the afternoon paper ceased. I remember the Iowa Cornets advertising featuring Machine Gun Molly well!!!
I’m not sure I agree what their assessment on Colorado State or Iowa State either one. It obviously comes down to matchups. But Colorado State is coming from a one bid conference. Sometimes the Mountain West, just like men’s basketball, is pretty competitive, but they weren’t particularly great this year. Colorado state is not very big, I don’t think they’re particularly great at defense and they’re not a prolific three-point shooting team from what I can tell, looking at stats. Now I have not watched them play, but I have watched Boise State, San Diego State and UNLV play. They are decent teams, but again not great. I don’t see Colorado State beating an Oklahoma per se, although I’d love it if they did.
As for Iowa State at any moment, Addy Brown gets her full confidence back and the guards are hitting from outside. They can be a dangerous team.
I agree on the later. It’s just a BIG if whether the guards will be hitting or missing badly. That lack of consistency makes them a threat and a non-threat.
Going way, way back to the late 1960s...it was Denise Long from tiny Union-Whitten high school. She played in my conference. I was too young to really remember her play, but people in the area talked about her for many, many years. My brother-in-law is from her home town and he knew the family very well.
As a senior in 1969, she averaged 69.6 points per game to end up with 6,250 career points. She once scored 111 points in a single game. She was an outside shooter...before the days of the 3-point shot.
