With the Rhule news, I’d bet Joe Brady is the leader in the clubhouse for PSU.LSU should hire Jon Sumrall and Penn St. should hire Bob Chesney. Both both have too much substance and not enough flash to be considered by either school.
Outside of LSU I think a lot of AD’s have been fairly patient. Most aren’t looking for a massive jump in improvement but you have to show that you’re trending the right direction to being more competitive. That’s an interesting point. With all the head coaching moves, will that free up a coordinator to look at making the jump that wouldn’t normally have if they weren’t caught up in a head coaching change. I don’t know enough about the PSU, Florida, or LSU coordinators to know if they’re worth a look, but I’m sure they’d come cheap.
In the end, there’s a lot of guys that would be successful at Wisconsin if you give them the time. Trouble is that ADs haven’t been patient enough to let a coach develop and want them ready from the jump.
Kelly is getting pretty old. Sparty’s next hire will be someone with very strong ties to the program and will most likely be a big reach.I could see Kelly ending up at a Michigan State, Wisconsin or Nebraska some day.
Shoooot "em!
They will never financially recover from this...
It's all a matter of opinion and which area of the country you want to live and work in. Looking over at past national championships the last two decades, you see the following. As it stands now, I’d put Ohio State as the best job in the nation imo. In a tier by themselves. -> primary FBS school in talent-rich state, historical and recent success, lots of resources, perennial national championship contender
Second tier is Texas, Alabama, Michigan, and Notre Dame -> primary FBS school in state, historical and recent success, true national championship contender most years, lots of resources, but not immune to down seasons with wrong coach
LSU is in a tier below that imo with Florida, USC, Oregon -> some historical and recent success, lots of resources, true national championship contender every few years, prone to down seasons for extended periods
I’d put PSU in a tier below that with FSU, Clemson, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M -> historical success from a bygone era, lots of resources but not as much as first three tiers, secondary FBS school in state (except for PSU and Tennessee) or competes with another high-level FBS in-state, true national championship contender once or twice a decade
That said I’d consider all of the above blue bloods
Isn't Kelly from Michigan? He could get them back to where they were with Dantonio or whatever his name was. Mel Tucker was a great hire.Kelly is getting pretty old. Sparty’s next hire will be someone with very strong ties to the program and will most likely be a big reach.
The Athletic and CBS sports had articles yesterday wondering with all these premium jobs now open, would some programs be better off keeping their current coach for another year, and allow the dust to settle a little instead of jumping into the coaching carousel. They were talking manily about Auburn, and FSU, but Kentucky and a few others are in the same boat. To me the interesting one is Wisconsin, and whether they will can Fickle if he goes winless in the B10 or bring him back another year.

As coaching carousel floods, will other big schools -- like Auburn and Florida State -- pause on changes?
Florida and LSU figure to consider the same top-tier coaching candidates, according to industry sources. Will that deter schools like Auburn and Florida State from entering the market?www.cbssports.com
50 million dollar buyouts are being thrown around like candy. Is $15 million really a showstopper? I mean Rhule is not worth it but there is probably someone stupid enough to do it.
Can you ever remember a year when 3 jobs like Florida, LSU and Penn State were all open at the same time? Plus you have a lot of good jobs also open like Oky State, and a few others. That logic sounds good, but IMO it's illogical.
A school like Wisky, Auburn or Kentucky is never going to get the sizzling hot next big name coach. Whether it's this year or 2026, that coach will go to a "top/top" program. To think programs like Florida, LSU and Penn State won't be looking for a head coach is 2026 is dreaming.
So if Wisky, Auburn and Kentucky believe their current coach is on life support, their AD needs to act now. Identify that next stud coach before that coach becomes sizzling hot. Plus hiring coaches is a gamble, a lot of the hot names bust (aka Fickell & Napier).
LSUs biggest problem going forward is this: Woodward, when he is fired is going to file the biggest defamation case in school history. Landry will be bankrupt after his comments yesterday. What coach or AD wants to walk into that?
He had a lot of experience coaching at Michaign college before going to cinci to replace Dantonio.Isn't Kelly from Michigan? He could get them back to where they were with Dantonio or whatever his name was. Mel Tucker was a great hire.. Just remembered. Kelly is from Boston or somewhere around there.
