***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

Totally could see him at Kentucky.
The Athletic and CBS sports had articles yesterday wondering with all these premium jobs now open, would some programs be better off keeping their current coach for another year, and allow the dust to settle a little instead of jumping into the coaching carousel. They were talking manily about Auburn, and FSU, but Kentucky and a few others are in the same boat. To me the interesting one is Wisconsin, and whether they will can Fickle if he goes winless in the B10 or bring him back another year.

Look up which of the schools have won a national championship in the past couple of decades and that will be your answer. LSU is like Ohio State the only large state school in an area with a flood of division one talent, and most of them want to play for the Tigers. You have a great atmosphere for a home game, one of the best in the country and they can pay very well.
There is not a school in the SEC that has an advantage over LSU in anything football related, some are equal, but no one school are you behind. You just need to buy into the culture and win.

But there are other coaching jobs open right now that offer very similar opportunities. Why would you sign up to be in the middle of a power struggle between an AD and governor if there are equal options out there (Florida)?

I think LSU is still a better job than PSU, but this mess would give me pause to take this job over a job like Florida.

Doesn’t make any sense to fire a coach right now.

Auburn or Kentucky may be able to take advantage of one of these retreads on the cheap. But trying to compete with the big dogs would be foolish. At the very least, I wouldn’t pull the trigger until after LSU and Florida were filled. Maybe you could get a coach that burned a bridge trying to get one of those jobs and were turned down?

I look forward to future political campaigns that focus on what the candidate will do for the football team. That'll solve all our problems.......
Future Louisiana election speech " If you elect me governor I promise 5% of the state budget will be given to the tigas yearly and once we win a Natty that will bump up to 7% to make sure we stay on top"

But a Wisconsin type of job will not entertain the same candidate pool that LSU/Florida would be entertaining...would they? If it has an opening, Wisconsin is going to hire a B10 coordinator or a head coach at a non-SEC/B10 school most likely. LSU thinks it can hire anyone it wants...so if I was Wisconsin I would attempt the fix the football program right now!

Yeah you can’t left another season of apathy happen at Wisconsin. The longer that goes on the more of a home run the next hire has to be.

It’s not the NFL where fans can understand done rebuild/tank years they really need to make a move and might be able to snag a good coordinator or lower tier HC in the chaos

Because you can win a national championship at LSU, Miles and coach O proved that along with Saban. What has Florida won in the past couple of decades, you have to back to Urban Meyer and Spurrer to when they were winning. Look at their history and they were on top for about a decade, otherwise good but not great. You are also competing with FSU and Miami for talent, you are the only school in Louisiana playing major college football.

The political stuff over this hire will be quickly forgotten if they hire a coach that starts winning, and keeps winning. If you struggle you are not any better off at Florida than LSU as neither school has shown much patience with coaches that are not winning, but the difference is that at least before Kelly, the three coaches that they hired won a championship, while that has not occurred at Florida and the guy was still canned.

Just a week ago, all the sports sites had possibilities of replacements at Wisconsin. No coordinators were on that list and just one assistant (NFL). Sounds like in just a week, the fan base has really lowered their expectations for a new coach. That’s what this environment does.

That’s an interesting point. With all the head coaching moves, will that free up a coordinator to look at making the jump that wouldn’t normally have if they weren’t caught up in a head coaching change. I don’t know enough about the PSU, Florida, or LSU coordinators to know if they’re worth a look, but I’m sure they’d come cheap.

In the end, there’s a lot of guys that would be successful at Wisconsin if you give them the time. Trouble is that ADs haven’t been patient enough to let a coach develop and want them ready from the jump.

Kelly tried to buy into the culture and it was very cringy.

I don’t see the Miles championships being all that different in timeline than Meyer’s. It’s not like Florida was some upstart that had a magic season 20 years ago. They have the same resources and opportunities as LSU. And, the expectations are a bit more leveled from the fan base. If I’m someone like Kiffin that would be offered both jobs, I’m taking Florida 10 times out of 10.

Kelly was an ass and a fraud, how many reports have you seen since he was fired defending him? Few if any, the guy was just a poor fit for LSU, neither Saban or Miles had a lot of coaching experience in the SEC before they were hired and both won a championship. Saban himself has said leaving LSU was one of his biggest mistakes of his career.
I saw Herby last night on a podcast and they asked him which was a better job, LSU or Penn State, and he stated it was LSU. The guy just broke out laughing saying that Herby was a B10 guy, grew up and played at Ohio State and was surprised that he did not say a B10 job was better. Herby explained that LSU along with Ohio State are the two premier coaching jobs in the nation, but there is a lot of pressure to win a title there, while jobs like Penn State you can go a decade or longer without winning anything and still keep your job.

I get that...but no way is Wisconsin going to hire a guy that LSU would hire! And if Wisconsin did and LSU opened up a year later...that guy would go to LSU anyway and then what? Wisconsin will be competing with schools like UCLA or Oklahoma State for candidates...not LSU and Florida. A coach with their eye set on a "big-time" school (like Venables did) won't leave a place for a job at Wisconsin...unless that would help him get a "big-time" job later which means LSU types wouldn't hire that guy this time around (and Wisconsin would be used as a stepping-stone).

I could see Kelly ending up at a Michigan State, Wisconsin or Nebraska some day.

Kelly treated his assistants like crap.

Here is an article about how he invited a couple of grad assistants to a party (Robert Saleh and Matt LeFleur) only to have them shovel snow and park cars.

On a winter night in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Matt LaFleur and Robert Saleh thought they were invited to a party at the home of their boss, Central Michigan University football coach Brian Kelly.

Turns out, they weren’t on the guest list.

They were on the worker list.

"We shoveled the snow and parked all the cars," Saleh said. "Then, at the end of the night, we had to go get the cars again."

And then they went back to the tiny apartment they shared as graduate assistants and stood around their kitchen table—the one without any chairs.

"We decided that when we’re in that position, we’re never going to treat people the way we got treated," said Saleh, now the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator. "And Matty’s lived up to it."

As it stands now, I’d put Ohio State as the best job in the nation imo. In a tier by themselves. -> primary FBS school in talent-rich state, historical and recent success, lots of resources, perennial national championship contender

Second tier is Texas, Alabama, Michigan, and Notre Dame -> primary FBS school in state, historical and recent success, true national championship contender most years, lots of resources, but not immune to down seasons with wrong coach

LSU is in a tier below that imo with Florida, USC, Oregon -> some historical and recent success, lots of resources, true national championship contender every few years, prone to down seasons for extended periods

I’d put PSU in a tier below that with FSU, Clemson, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M -> historical success from a bygone era, lots of resources but not as much as first three tiers, secondary FBS school in state (except for PSU and Tennessee) or competes with another high-level FBS in-state, true national championship contender once or twice a decade

That said I’d consider all of the above blue bloods

LSU should hire Jon Sumrall and Penn St. should hire Bob Chesney. Both both have too much substance and not enough flash to be considered by either school.
