It is one of the plum jobs. I meant more that this scenario is a dumpster fire. The Governor (and his "committee" are going to hire a coach that the AD probably will not want and a new university President (when they get one) may not like. Certainly doesn't make for a cohesive unit. LSU is a top job - but it is not an ideal scenario for any coach going in there - especially given how little patience and time you will get.
Most of your replies are usually pretty reasonable, but this take is just ridiculous. Iowa State has never been better because of Matt Campbell period. I would argue that his success could be quite some better if NIL had never become a thing.

Everything I have read and heard says they will be hiring a new university president within the next couple of weeks, and then go from there. All the guys that they are looking at will not be hired until the end of the season unless it's Saban.
I would guess the new president and the governor will make this hire with a lot of input from the boosters. I would think the AD will have a voice, how much is anyones guess. The biggest problem is if they go after one of the big names and his team is still playing it's going to put them behind in recruiting and getting players out of the portal. But LSU can reach out to the agent of the coaches they want, see if they are indeed interested and if told "no", move on to the next group of candidates.
For me, it's not about if ISU is better today vs 25 years ago. I was a huge MLB fan in the 1980's to early 2000's. But MLB is structured in a way today where teams who can afford to buy a championship will have a far better chance at having success. And today I barely watch any games
College Football is now becoming like MLB. Teams can spend as much as they want through NIL to attract the top talent. PLUS an athlete can leave each year. Which basically means every athlete is an unrestricted free agent every single year with no salary cap. Just think about that for a moment. Could you imagine the NFL without a salary cap and a player can leave after 1 year to find a team that will pay him more?
Something needs to change with college sports. It's clearly in a direction to favor schools with money. Could a team like Iowa State make a run in the playoffs? Sure. But it will be much harder to replicate year in and year out vs teams with a lot of financial resources.

I wouldn't go that far yet, it looks horrible on the surface because the Governor is saying things in public that should only be said behind closed doors. No one is saying that firing Kelly was a horrible decision or a mistake, that LSU should have given him more time.
If they hire a guy that gets them a championship or two, then all of this will be forgotten, if they hire someone and he is not any better than Kelly record wise, then people will point back to this and be saying "see its just totally screwed up".
When you are a school that can hire Les Miles and Ed Orgeron and both win national titles, you have a lot of things going your way.
This is the guy who will choose LSUs next coach.

Look up which of the schools have won a national championship in the past couple of decades and that will be your answer. LSU is like Ohio State the only large state school in an area with a flood of division one talent, and most of them want to play for the Tigers. You have a great atmosphere for a home game, one of the best in the country and they can pay very well.
There is not a school in the SEC that has an advantage over LSU in anything football related, some are equal, but no one school are you behind. You just need to buy into the culture and win.
They were late to the NIL game without a doubt, but there is plenty of money and boosters at LSU for the next coach, NIL will not be a problem. I would put their NIL budget up against Penn. State or Florida's any day of the week going forward.

If reasonable heads were to prevail...they would look at Willie Fritz for a short-term answer. He would bring stability, he knows that part of the country...and he would win! A few years later...LSU could then look younger...
