It is one of the plum jobs. I meant more that this scenario is a dumpster fire. The Governor (and his "committee" are going to hire a coach that the AD probably will not want and a new university President (when they get one) may not like. Certainly doesn't make for a cohesive unit. LSU is a top job - but it is not an ideal scenario for any coach going in there - especially given how little patience and time you will get.The three coaches before Kelly won a National Championship at the school and only one of them was named Saban. LSU is one of the plum jobs in the nation, great recruits everywhere around the state and they all want to play for LSU. They were behind on their NIL, which costs them some instate recruits, but they are now pumping money into program.
The question is do they go after the name coach or really search and get a really great coach, even if he has not been at a major program. They also pointed out that Saban had no connection to LSU before he got there.
Most of your replies are usually pretty reasonable, but this take is just ridiculous. Iowa State has never been better because of Matt Campbell period. I would argue that his success could be quite some better if NIL had never become a thing. Were you watching before to have a stake in the playoffs or national championship?
These takes always make me laugh as ISU has legit never been better than in the NIL era.
Could you imagine Kim Reynolds making the hiring decision for the next football coach at Iowa State? Iowa politics are a clown show but Louisiana just said “hold my beer”.
Everything I have read and heard says they will be hiring a new university president within the next couple of weeks, and then go from there. All the guys that they are looking at will not be hired until the end of the season unless it's Saban. It is one of the plum jobs. I meant more that this scenario is a dumpster fire. For me, it's not about if ISU is better today vs 25 years ago. I was a huge MLB fan in the 1980's to early 2000's. But MLB is structured in a way today where teams who can afford to buy a championship will have a far better chance at having success. And today I barely watch any gamesWere you watching before to have a stake in the playoffs or national championship?

Someone tell that to the Mets. For me, it's not about if ISU is better today vs 25 years ago. I was a huge MLB fan in the 1980's to early 2000's. I wouldn't go that far yet, it looks horrible on the surface because the Governor is saying things in public that should only be said behind closed doors. No one is saying that firing Kelly was a horrible decision or a mistake, that LSU should have given him more time. This LSU coaching search is already a disaster.

If they hire a guy that gets them a championship or two, then all of this will be forgotten, if they hire someone and he is not any better than Kelly record wise, then people will point back to this and be saying "see its just totally screwed up".
When you are a school that can hire Les Miles and Ed Orgeron and both win national titles, you have a lot of things going your way.
Look up which of the schools have won a national championship in the past couple of decades and that will be your answer. LSU is like Ohio State the only large state school in an area with a flood of division one talent, and most of them want to play for the Tigers. You have a great atmosphere for a home game, one of the best in the country and they can pay very well. Why in the hell would anyone take the LSU job over Florida or Penn State?

There is not a school in the SEC that has an advantage of LSU in anything football related, some are equal, but no one school are you behind. You just need to buy into the culture and win.
They were late to the NIL game without a doubt, but there is plenty of money and boosters at LSU for the next coach, NIL will not be a problem. I would put their NIL budget up against Penn. State or Florida's any day of the week going forward.Ehh….i think NIL changes things quite a bit.
Totally could see him at Kentucky.Jon Sumrall would be a slam dunk hire there but he's nowhere near a big enough name for them to go that way.
