***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

I know what you are saying and don’t necessarily disagree, but I think they are coming to the realization that the TV money will only take them so far. That’s why many Big 10 schools signed up for the payday loan from Private Equity. Makes it tough like you said for schools in the Big 12, but Jamie has managed pretty good so far. That’s what it takes.
At this point, I no longer care. As many have observed, CFB has charted a collision course with the NFL. Buy players, buy coaches, win now. And what of the rest? Will fans like me (loyalty based) have to "choose" a blue blood to cheer for if I want to have a stake in the playoffs? I say "meh" to that. I'll just watch the NFL, or more likely check out all together.

It is but for many it's not like they have to come up with the entire amount all at once. They just end up paying for two coaches and their staff for the next decade or so. So Penn State will be paying Franklin a set amount just like he is coaching for them. There was one guy that was fired that did have an upfront payout of $25 million, but most don't.

Its hard for these schools that are in the B10 and SEC and rolling in the media money not to keep shelling out the biggest contract if they want to keep their fan base and more important their boosters happy. It's a never ending cycle that only will stop when the money runs out.
From what I read the buyouts vary in when they pay. I’ve seen some that are heavily front loaded.

I wonder if schools are not going to start moving to shorter contracts with a higher yearly salary to eliminate some of this in the future. Maybe come up with a way to bind the coach to the school for a set number of years after signing a new deal. Look at Indiana, while their guy has done an unbelievable job in his less than two years there, they renewed his deal and extended it to where he will be in his 70s when it ends. They were stuck between we have to pay him or he will leave, which is great for him, but what happens if in a couple of years they start losing again.

most likely they'll end up looking like professional contracts which are indeed shorter terms for larger annual amounts. Sean McVay after winning a superbowl signed an extension for 5 years. I don't know that any NFL head coach has or has had a 10 year contract

Is the the college football jumped the shark moment? A governor hiring the football coach of a state University, while standing behind a pulpit saying “Protecting the Most Vulnerable”

Never heard of Jeff Landry in my life until this LSU coaching search debacle began. Man this dude is comical. It's like he was made in lab to perfectly fit all the Louisiana stereotypes.

This is thing is going to be a glorious mess for them

Unbelievable. But we shouldn’t be totally surprised when 100 years ago Huey long took over the decision making for building a football stadium.

Full blown jump the shark except the shark jumps up and eats him because he's so full of delicious Cajun spices.

I heard on sat, radio on Monday that LSU does not currently have a president of the university at this time, and therefore the choice falls on the governor. They have really strange laws in the state, and the governor is running the entire show and he does not get along with the AD, so it sounds like the Governor and the large boosters will be making the call of who the next coach is,

They also were saying that Kelly was called In and told to fire his OC and he refused, and the entire thing turned ugly quickly with Kelly being told its either him or you, and Kelly walked out of the meeting. Everyone stated that Kelly at LSU was just a poor fit, it started when he fired the long time conditioning coach to bring in his own guy and went downhill from there. Most said that they were willing to over look his abusive behavior to basically everyone as long as he was winning, but when that stopped, he became the target no matter what the cost to the university and the state.

This will be a glorious dumpster fire to watch

It definitely will be. But the governor has a point - Scott Woodward gave Jimbo Fischer his fully guaranteed $100+ million contract which resulted in paying out a $75 million buyout and then DID IT AGAIN with Brian Kelly. He was the AD and responsible for paying out the two largest coaching buyouts in the history of college football!

I just saw a tweet that says the AD, Fisher and Kelly all have the same agent.

So whoever makes the biggest campaign contribution will make the decision.

I agree they have way more money than ISU, BUT a $50 million buyout is a huge bite out of anyone's budget.
Kelly’s buyout came directly from donors including one who paid almost all of it.

To add to it, the way the ADs contract is written, the only person with the authority to fire him is the university president so he's going to sit there and continue to collect a check while other people do his job until they hire a president that can fire him.

Greatest agent ever.

Listening to the Governor of Louisiana. What a maroon.
No. 1 says “i won’t be picking that coach.” But then in the next sentence says “we will pick the next coach.”
No. 2 says “we will make sure that coach is successful.” Sounds like what a member of the Gambino Mafia Family would say.
This is not going to be a dumpster fire. This is going to be Hindenburg.

The fact that the Governor of one of the top football programs in the SEC just threw the AD of one of the top football programs in the SEC under the bus, is a glorious day and couldn’t happen to a better conference.

These buyout numbers are way past my retire comfortably number. I guess Im poor.
If you invest it in some safe stocks with 4% dividends, $50M invested would pay out $2M per year. Yeah I think I could live on that.

Might have to budget a bit but I could manage. LOL

Have to think this makes that job less desirable. I mean, some coach will take it, but this is a dumpster fire. And with the zero patience that these programs have, you will constantly be looking over your shoulder. This will be interesting, for sure.
