***2025-26 CFB Coaching Carousel***

We need a running list on here to keep track of all the openings. Anyone got the list? Its getting long, and I can see several more are going to be out before long too.

Wonder if any bigger-name places who would normally fire their coach this season tries to hold off until next year. With so many big openings already plus the dominoes those hirings will create, maybe someone like FSU spends the year fundraising toward a slightly lower buyout after 2026-27 and tries to be the big job next year. Or maybe I'm crazy.

Totally agree, there are a lot of great jobs out there and more will be opening up between coaches moving to fill the current openings and schools that are going to fire their coach like Wisconsin this year. Great time to be an up and coming coach at a smaller level. Unless you are 100% sure the guy you currently have is not your future, keep him around another year, lessen the buyout and see what is out there next season.

Also, I wonder if they’re worried about having an opening at the same time as Florida and don’t like the idea of losing that competition.

Hhhmmm at this. There is some thought that this Athletic Director might get fired too though:

The dreaded vote of confidence. The guy is a dead man walking and everyone knows is. No way they can bring him back if they only win a couple of conference games or less. They still have @Oregon, Washington, @indiana, Illinois and @Minn. left to play, they will not be favored in any of those games.

I've been hearing rumors of some of these BIG and SEC concerned about their financials, can't afford buyouts. Complete financial mis-management by these programs. The BIG/SEC likes to brag about how much money they get from the conference, but still can't pay their bills and are looking for any possible way to squeeze more money from the CFP.

I know Wisconsin isn’t doing that strongly financially with the new NIL line item.

Not saying they won’t fire Fickell, but to me they’re trying to keep him cause that buyout is extremely prohibitive for them. This statement also tells me, they don’t have the money right now.

36-31 (20-24) is fireable at FSU.
Thats enough of a leash to see if its working out and it isnt.
His buyout is as massive as Franklin’s and FSU probably doesn’t have as deep of pockets.

I’m still shocked PSU actually pulled the trigger on letting Franklin go. One of their whales had to have ponied up big bucks (Orr threatened to pull all his/her dollars) to force them to make that move

Campbell isn't stupid he can see the unrealistic expectations other schools have and knows he has an AD that will stick with him if he happens to have an off year.
He's probably not going to Penn State or Florida, but I don't know that a place like Wisconsin really has unrealistic expectations. Winning 9-10 games a year there is doable and you'll keep your job. Same with a place like Michigan State.

Don't under estimate Chris McIntosh. He's not well liked up here in Madison and the athletic department as a whole is a mess. Struggling in NIL, in the middle of a massive ($285mil) new athletics facility build which surely straps the budget, over saw the whole Marisa Mosely fiasco in WBB which still has lawsuits hanging out there, Xavier Lucas transfer drama which was awful PR, paid Phil Longo seven figures to go away as OC then they turned around and made Jeff Grimes the highest paid coordinator in school history (134th out of 136 in point per game this year), MBB hasn't made a Sweet 16 since 2016-17, and on and on.

Fickell was McIntosh's big coup one year into his job as AD. He's made zero other big job hires. Had to hire a WBB coach when Mosely has to resign during that scandal and I suppose the Men's Hockey job is a big one around here at least and that hasn't been real successful either. It's real that McIntosh loves Fickell, does not want to admit that his big splash was a failure and MIGHT not be able to afford the $29mil buyout.

I'm surprised that Wisconsin isn't doing well with NIL. They have all that cheese curd money.

I don't know, firing Chryst looks pretty bad in hindsight. They still think they should be in contention for Rose bowls every year

No way they can keep him if they win one conference game and finish 1-8, which is very likely. His buyout is $25 million, but he gets 80% of his remaining salary through 2031. One bowl game in three seasons, and a 13 and 18 record. 7-6. 5-7 and 2-5 right now, its not going to get any better, they will struggle selling tickets if the do not fire the guy after the season the way they are going now.

I.E. they don’t have the money right now
Or they've hired a hit man/women to take him out. Would be a lot cheaper to get pictures of him with a hooker(s) and blow in a hotel room.

I cannot believe FSU can stick with Norvell. Maybe they are being realistic with all the other jobs open. But they were first in line about leaving the ACC and having private equity discussions. Can't believe the money isn't there.

Maybe there's a good aspect of PE, maybe to ensure the revenue is there, they will get in school's business about cost control.
