Is there precedent for a coach going from top 5 and on the doorstep of a NC berth, then getting canned midway through the next season?
Wasn't it kind of like that for the LSU guy?

Sparty already done with Smith? If this year was better without the losses to cinci and Colorado then I agree, especially after last season but the record against lower tier teams and recruiting issues will make them reconsider.
Honestly wouldn’t be suprised if they offer Dabo but don’t know if he would go. Also thing GT’s coach would be possible but I want him for sparty
Man insane world we are living in. Penn St went 13-3 last year and made a deep run in the CFP. Now half way through the next year they fire the coach.
Not to mention his record overall.
I get there are some issues with winning the big games, but wow, you may think that grass looks greener on the other side of that fence, but jump over and land in a pile of ****.
I have a feeling he will find another job fairly easily. I am sure places like VT would kill for Penn States recent record.

Would be hard to turn it down if offered.I think you'd be surprised. But I hope you are right.
Yep. 3 4 stars decommited. He lost a bunch of talent to the portal when he came in who have shined at other programs and the team just looks lost.Sparty already done with Smith?
Cignetti had instant success because he plundered the JMU roster and took a bunch of starters with him. Legal but unethical IMO. I don't see that happening from Indiana to Penn State. It could happen, but doesn't the B1G have standards of conduct or something like that? You got to think Penn State’s first call is to Cignetti

CIgnetti will win no matter where he goes. You can bet he'd find a way to bring players to PSU. He wouldn't need to poach Indiana's roster to get good transfers to come to PSU.Cignetti had instant success because he plundered the JMU roster and took a bunch of starters with him. Plundering a G5 roster shouldn’t give you success at a P4 level though. It’s also totally ethical as that’s a huge boon for those kids who didn’t get a P4 offer.Cignetti had instant success because he plundered the JMU roster and took a bunch of starters with him. It’s not uncommon for players to want to follow a coach, so long as the coach feels their skills translate to the next levelCignetti had instant success because he plundered the JMU roster and took a bunch of starters with him. Agreed, it would be really weird to move inter conference these days unless you have major tiesI don't see why Cignetti would leave for Penn State. Going from Indiana to Penn State makes sense if it's a situation where he wants to take the next step and contend for wins and titles that he wouldn't be able to otherwise, but he already is doing that at Indiana and getting paid accordingly.
Double digit games pretty much every year.
I mean, seems pretty good to me.
