2025-2026 MBB computer projections thread

I'm weirdly worried about the Cincy game on Saturday. Seems like a trap.

semi hot take but I think Iowa State's in more danger of losing tomorrow and Saturday than of beating Kansas then sleepwalking at Cincinnati. My gut says Kansas plays its best game since the first week of December and wins tomorrow, in which case Cincinnati wouldn't be a trap, more of a "letdown" game. But, I think Iowa State would have more pep in its step after winning at The Phog than it's had the last two home games, in which the squad has looked pretty uninspired

Losing at Cincinnati would be serious cause for concern, in my opinion. Losing @KU would not surprise me at all given history there. They're going to be jacked up for this game and once that crowd gets going so does the officiating. As the old saying goes, you've got to play well enough to win by 10 in that place. We can't afford another slow start in that building.

It is likely we are going to lose a head scratcher this year. I wouldn't say it would be serious cause for concern losing anywhere on the road in the Big XII. A couple of those together might.

Wow, I didn't realize how bad - and weird - their season is.

They have no Q1 or Q2 wins, and they lost to Q4 Eastern Michigan.

Per Torvik they have the #7 ranked defense - and the 256th ranked offense!

That said - they've lost their 3 conference games (all Q1) by a total of 10 points.

Their defense makes them dangerous, even if their complete lack of offense means they lose most games

It's hard to imagine a better scenario for Kansas to have a get-right game than at home against a top 2 team that they have history with, especially considering that they have only been playing this badly because their whole team forgets how to play basketball when Darryn Peterson is playing. I would not be surprised if Kansas plays their A+ game in which case it would be nearly impossible to leave there with a W.

Dunno. I wouldn't love if we lost to Cincy, but they aren't awful. They just aren't getting the wins. They are really ******* close to being 3-0 in the league. It was a tie game late against #7 Houston, lost at WVU by 2 (KU just lost there by 15+), and a one point loss at ranked UCF.

That's like TJ's teams the first couple of years but with worse offense. Can't imagine.

My concern too is that - since the Purdue game - our offense has cratered to #63 in terms of efficiency on Torvik... down from #2.

We really gotta start playing better and executing better offensively. Certainly not time to panic but it is OK to acknowledge that we can play much, much better. And will need to as we get further into the conference grind.

What would the cause for concern be?

This ISU team is good but could certainly get beat by a mid/average team on the right day just like a lot of other good teams.

I think at times ISU tends to look about more what I thought they would with their youth, new guys and lack of real post depth beyond Pleta, etc.

They've just been able to string together enough stretches to win.

Shame on anyone making excuses or trying to apply logic to why they think we lose in AFH. This is our best team in a generation and likely their worst. No excuses. If you want to win the Big 12 and earn a 1 seed for the first time in program history you strut your a$$ into that building as the clear alpha and take it to them in their house from the jump!

I love that Toure will be following around Peterson all game. He has been suffering from cramps all year and is about to face the best defense and on ball defenders he will see all year. Toure will wear him out.

We’re fans, not players. There’s a blind fandom perspective, and there’s a measured analytics-based perspective. There’s room for both on a fan forum.

Not sure what shame has to do with anything logical. It’s a completely applicable data point that this has been the 63rd-best offense in the country since the Purdue game.

Pretty shameful this is arguably our best team in 25 years and arguably their worst and some of you are acting as if itd be surprising if we won.

KU is due for a breakout or good game and ISU is due to have things not work out in a tough environment. That's how college basketball tends to go.

It's still January, not even mid-January, so anointing them the best team in a generation is imo not applying actual logic.

There is a difference between thinking we'll lose versus being concerned that we might lose.

Kansas is still loaded with talent. Their backs are against the wall. Phog is still a real tough place to play.

I think we should win tomorrow, but won't be in the least bit surprised if we don't. Heck, our own history has countless victories with the script flipped.

Who’s saying it would be surprising if we won?

Keep hacking at that straw man.
